Re: Crimped wiring connector..
Looks like a nice kit. I’ve use weather tight connectors like these on my Ural to run accessories to the sidecar. I like them very much.

Re: Crimped wiring connector..
Hey not bad....one doesn't usually crimp the waterproof plug on the terminal, so these are perhaps "proprietary" to some degree? OEM Sumitomo connectors are available at Eastern Beaver and a couple other sources, buy a good crimper. Get a few extra terminals to practice with if you're a rookie.

Re: Crimped wiring connector..
Regardless if the connector is a Weather Tight or for other standard pins the correct crimper (and knowing how to use it) is invaluable for solid, reliable connections. This is particularly true for higher current connectors. Over the years I have acquired several different type crimpers for the various style pins, as well as some common pin extractors. In a professional setting the company will have a dedicated crimper or a selection of jaws for a crimper for each pin style.

Re: Crimped wiring connector..
Thanks for that Bust. I’m not much for anything that involves crimping and these look like they will last as well as soldering and shrink tube.

Re: RE: Re: Crimped wiring connector..
There are benefits to both soldering and crimping. Believe it or not, there really isn't much difference electrically. A good connection will carry the juice the circuit is designed for, no matter how it's made.Pterodactyl wrote:Thanks for that Bust. Solder connections are great for making several wires connect together at one spot (think the ground spider) and also when you need to splice into the midsection of a wire and can't (or won't) cut the wire to make a three way splice.
Crimps are good because they are fast, secure, and don't require soldering skills which are like counting change. Everyone should know how, but hardly anyone does.
There are two methods I will down play though because they are just stupidity. Twist and tape (self explanatory) and Scotch-locks. Scotch locks are designed for indoor solid strand wire use with very low current. Telephone wire. That's all they are (kinda maybe possibly if you squint and scratch your elbow) good for. Neither method has a place on a motorcycle....
...or earth.
There's just too much what the f@$k in this thread to know where to begin...

One advantage of Scotch-locks is when you have an electrical problem, you know right away where it issilverback wrote: ↑Fri Aug 10, 2018 3:30 pm ...I will down play..Scotch-locks...Neither method has a place on a motorcycle....

Re: Crimped wiring connector..
I'm a cheap bastage and I can't solder worth a shit.
So what I do is cut the plastic away from the solderless connector, crimp it tight, and then pull shrink wrap over it for strain relief and waterproofness. Works pretty good and it dirt cheap. Check and check!!!

Re: Crimped wiring connector..
Posi-locks for the win. I bought an assortment from Webbikeworld a long time ago. Nice thing with them, their reusable in addition to providing a good solid connection.

I was intrigued by the link Bust posted so I ordered the kit of 100. We'll see what we get. Thanks Bust.
