Another Custom Seat Option

Thanks for the update. I got a Laam last May, and although it's WAY better than stock, i'm still finding myself 50% uncomfortable after 45mins. Luckily, the level doesn't really increase like on the stocker, so i'm putting on more miles.

I'd love to give it a 'sit' if you'll be at EOM.

The final test for the seat was done yesterday. I completed my first Saddlesore 1000. The seat did not become uncomfortable at all. At almost 15k miles on it, the seat has really become the best farkle purchase I've ever made.

It is always a mystery to me why folks will pay more for an off the shelf, one size fits all seat than they would for a full custom seat.

I will say that if I were to buy an Off the Shelf seat the Sargent would be my hands down first choice.

Since I have an extra set of stock seat pans I don't anticipate needing a spare seat anytime soon.


And for the OP, thanks for bringing this very nice (very Russell Day Long looking) custom seat option to our attention. Thank you also for giving us an update and mileage report. Good Stuff.

Last Spring I mounted tires for a couple headed to Alaska and the Yukon. They both had new Adcox seats on their bikes; he was on a Wee Strom and she was on a Versys. The seats were gorgeous and looked very well made. I later ran into them again in Dawson City in the Yukon and both spoke glowingly about their comfort as well.

I exchanged emails with the Adcoxs about putting one of their seats on my Super Tenere. It had a Sargent on it when I got it and I found the Sergent not to my liking. I think I could sell the Sergent used (cost over $600 new) and get more than enough to pay for the Adcox. I ended up selling the ST, but the Adcox is on the short list for the new R1200GSA.

Having had a Russell on my 05 and a LAMM on my 2013, which came on it btw, I will definitely say the Russell was more comfortable for me.
I'm not to the point of selling the LAMM and getting another Russell but I'm convinced if I were serious about all day comfort the Russell is the ticket.

I bought a 2011 FJR yesterday and rode it 350 miles home. Stock seat with an Airhawk2 seat pad. With the airhawk, the ride was bearable, but by the time I got close to home, I was pretty tired of sitting on the bike, even tho 100 miles was the longest leg I did between stops.

As I was getting near Vegas, at my last stop I took the seat pad off to try just the OEM seat. in the 35 miles home, I learned that I hate it.
All my weight is on the back of my butt with no weight anywhere else. When you sit in an office chair or drive a car, much of your weight is on your thighs. On a bike, that doesn't work as well since you're straddling it.

So here's the question- on your TERRY seat, does it do a better job of distributing the pressure? I've already emailed them about core availability, I'm ready to do something this month.

Seat Concepts has been under my ass for 30,000 miles. Cheap, but effective. As they say, your butt may vary.

At YFO in Mariposa California a couple months ago I met a gentleman that had ridden all the way from Virginia, not by a direct route, on the stock seat. In fact, he didn't have any bar risers either.

Some folks and some butts are just tougher than others.

Sorry, I won't be going to Vegas. I do have plans for doing a trip to Colorado Springs next year though. The seat does distribute the load better. I rode 600 mile days with the stock seat and it was okay. Nothing compared to the comfort of this seat though. I think seats are kinda like mattresses. Some people like a firm bed, some people like a soft bed.

For what it's worth, I rode 20,000 miles on the stock seat, including a SaddleSore. It only became uncomfortable after about 6 or 7 continuous hours.

You know the saying: "Once you finish your first SS1K, you realize how close you are to everywhere else in North America." Well, that's when I decided the stock seat had to go.

Different people, different experiences. After riding my new (to me) FJR home from Phoenix with an Airhawk seat pad, I was getting tired of it and took it off for the last 35 miles home. That 35 miles was enough for me to violently dislike the stock seat.

Based on Justin's recommendation and sitting on his bike at EOM last year, I went ahead and sent my seat to Terry's. I just got it back yesterday and it looks great. Terry is real easy to work with (he actually picks up the phone when you call). We still have snow on the ground here, so no ride report, butt (pun intended) it does feel good in the garage. Come on Spring!!!!!

One of the riders at a meetup the other day was bragging about those seats and will probably give him a try myself. I am orginally from Tennessee and may call and see if he will do a ride-in. Glad to read your review and that the seat has gone well for you.
