Russell Day Long Question
I'll receive my used Russell Day Long seat tomorrow. I know my Corbin requires the high/low plastic bracket under the seat to be in the low position. What about with the Russell?

Re: Russell Day Long Question
The Russell uses the OEM seat pan, unlike the Corbin. As such, it is adjustable (Hi-Lo) just like the OEM.

Give it a few rides to get used to the height. Or wear Gene Simmons boots. I know you own a pair.

Re: Russell Day Long Question
Never heard of anyone trying. Might be a question for RDL.
Pans are quite different so I would be surprised if it would work.

I would need to have a Gen II or later and look at the difference on the bottom.

Nope, won't work. Seat pans are too different between the Gen's.

Re: Russell Day Long Question
My cover (Gen 1) isn't a "glove" fit. There's some extra to tuck under the edges of the pan. I don't know how big a difference there is between the pans, but if you can find someone with one to test...escapefjrtist wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:23 pmNope, won't work. I have been searching for a RDL or a Sargent. It would be easier to pan for gold.Bounce wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 9:35 amMy cover (Gen 1) isn't a "glove" fit. Re: Russell Day Long Question
One could probably find an upholstery shop to modify the foam & cover and cobble together a solution.Bounce wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 9:35 amMy cover (Gen 1) isn't a "glove" fit. Re: Russell Day Long Question
I have modified a few seats.... you need an air stapler, and angle grinder to reshape foam. It won't be hard to shave a little foam here and there to fit the pan, the question will be how it works with the rear seat and the fuel tank.
If it almost fits and you don't want to remove foam, you can add say packaging foam to any voids to the new pan. Either way......
The easy part is removing the staples and getting it off the old pan. You can peel up the edges of the cover and the top will stay glued to the foam. Depending on how much you have to peel up the cover (or not), you can always stretch the cover back on and re-staple, start in the middle at front and rear, work your way around. Put it out in the hot sun before you start, so easier to stretch the cover back in place....
Here's a Honda seat I had to "flatten".... first pic the rough grinding, finessed later, then a thin 1/8" layer of packaging foam, then recover it. A friend had the same bike, we put an FJR Seat Concepts kit on it with a little mod of the foam to fit the Honda pan. OK for the DIY.....

Re: Russell Day Long Question
I was supposed to receive my Russell last Friday, but there was some emergency UPS situation. They delivered it on Monday instead. I went out for a ride on some local twisty roads and added in some highway miles. I love the seat. I can't wait to ride down to Duane's Memorial Ride next month to see how I feel about the long distance aspect of the saddle. It's a little taller, but I can still get the balls of my feet on the ground. My other balls stay on the seat as expected.

Re: Russell Day Long Question
I also just picked up a Nelson Rigg half cover to protect the seat from the rain. I have 2 full covers and never use them. This cover seems a little for functional for traveling.
