What did you do to your FJR today?

I try like we all do to be so proactive to look out for the morons who want to kill us. Sometime no matter how careful we are something can happen we cannot control. Yesterday in Wheaton's neck of the woods Travelers Rest (going by the driving range) I was putting along nearing home thinking about the great day and was just starting to get past this truck who then decided to pull out and almost T Bone me I saw him ahead and he seemed like no threat (always watch the tires for movement) but if I did not hit the gas and swerve it could have been bad. The photo does not show how close he came to me as he kept coming right at the middle of my bike. Whoa!! Really makes you think when something like that happens. Going over and over it in my head there was nothing I could have done to avoid it so guess it was just not my time.

Yeah. I don't ride to work. I try to avoid commercial/retail areas. People are dicks and don't give a rat's pitootee if they hit someone or something...so I avoid TR when headed out of town and would suggest that you avoid it as well...even if it is the straight line home. Too many pedestrians and cars pulling in and out. There are bypass roads. I'd probably hit the secret back ways around TR. From a previous, largely abandoned town, it is now a buzzin little town with the Swamp Rabbit Trail....and breweries, and distilleries, and...

I hear ya Wheaton, I usually avoid that area but when I finish the ride to get good ole non ethanol gas I like going up Paris/Altimont Rd. Great spot at the end. As you know it’s icing on the cake to finish a good ride. Won’t be going through there anymore.

Another reason to avoid that area is Rt 276. As you know the road is in terrible shape all the way to the NC line. Total embarrassment to the state as people come from all over to go to Caesars Head, Pretty Place etc. Hey we love our low gas taxes but man something need to be done. Would be dangerous to any motorcyclist riding at night. Huge holes and ruts. I can’t wait to get up to NC on every ride.

I blame that on corruption in Columbia more than gas taxes. Having lived in Illinois most of my life, I know that giving the gubment more money doesn’t mean shit gets done. But I hear ya.

Sorry, it was sarcasm that I kinda thought I could get away with. My father was born and raised in England. Bolton specifically. Came over at 13 with my grandma that was still completing her military commitment.

Your country is smart in not illuminating it's hiccups. Ours could use some of that advice from our own people.

I do remember at school being introduced to the subject of the Boston Tea Party. It was quite a surprise when the teacher talked about throwing chests of tea into the harbour, somewhat different from my first image of a group of people standing around holding cups and saucers.

We had a British guy that worked with us and he arrived early to work on July 4th so that he could hang signs at all the coffee/tea stations in the office implementing a tax on our coffee and tea. Someone got there the next morning early. When the British guy arrived, the torn tax signs were on his desk which was covered with tea bags. All in good fun.

Many years ago, back in 8th grade History class, we were learning about the start of the American Revolution. One day, our ancient teacher, Mrs. "Dour Battle-Axe" was out for some reason. Our substitute was a newly-graduated young dude.

During his introduction to us, he told us that Mrs. Battle-Axe had been his instructor when he had been sitting in our chairs.

"I don't exactly know how old she is..." he started, "But I heard that at the Boston Tea Party, she was the first bag they threw over."

OK - 8th-grade humor, but the class loved him after that.

Don't think it's an issue. I've had this debate in Another Place. This was my response there:

Just for you, I've weighed the label. It's somewhere between 2 and 3 grams (for you ex-colonials, that's between 0.0705479 and 0.105822 ounces). In all honesty, I don't think a tenth of an ounce is going to matter very much, even at that increased radius from where weights are normally fitted.

Bridgestone just put that there to tease you!

I do not find a PR4 wears faster than a PR4GT but have found front T30 Evo wears faster than T30 Evo GT which wore faster than T31GT. Don't know if that extends to T31 and T32 not-GT. I think you will like the T32. The T31GT was my favorite front tire but not available when I last ordered so I have a T32GT on front now.

As I recall the RS3 is a very neutral tire when new. The T30/31/32 are much the same when new. Most front tires start falling into slow speed turns and require more force to lean at higher speeds near their end of life. T31GT didn't, so I have a T32GT front now. PR4GT rear.

I doubt it makes much difference, I have a wall covered with tire stickers. If they weighed very much the wall would fall over.

When I balance a tire I use about 8" of shipping tape to hold old weights on until I find balance. Then I get new weights and peel the backing off. Almost never re-check the wheel with the final weights attached because it has always been fine.
