I thought about the block off plates but didn’t convince myself it mattered. Does it matter much, other than ease of access to the top end?

Air injection is simply a way to keep the catalytic converter burning off the extra fuel. It was commonly used on 80s era vehicles, which are renown for their power AND efficiency!

Now days, cats are sized larger and have a better matrix and don't really need the air injection. I know the FJR uses it to pass a sniffer test, but there really isn't a down side other than complexity and weight.

It would be fun to rig up a propane injector instead and make those cool jet flame plumes like an F-16 on takeoff. Just sayin...since you've got it apart and all...

Hey! Are you going to crank it up before putting it back into the bike frame? That would make an AWESOME video.

I know you're going to miss working on her but she's not running yet... I don't think I'll feel relieved until that successful test ride you're going to take!

Oh, I'm not taking the maiden voyage. Why do you think I keep asking you to help? I may be stupid, but I'm not dumb. Wait, was that supposed to be "I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid"???

Either way, I'm putting the space monkey....I mean Viper Dad on it for the first run :)

It's a good day! A couple weeks ago, Rob sent me a message that someone had the exhaust for sale on Facebook. The guy was in Oregon. A few minutes after Rob sent me a message, Viper Dad sent me the same message :) Nice to have people trying to help! I sent the guy a message right away and he responded that someone local wanted them and he'd wait to see how that went. The local told him he'd pick them up the following week. Today, I get a message from the guy telling me the sale never happened and he wanted to know if I was still interested. I knew shipping wasn't something he wanted to do, so I asked him if I could send him a prepaid FedEx label and he could just drop it off at any FedEx location. He was happy about that. So within a few minutes, the deal was done. New(er) (dent free) pipes heading this way in the next week or so. Also logged into Partzilla to grab a couple part numbers to give a customer who swears he can get me better pricing and saw the left side front fairing price down to $271. Boom. Done. Send it on!

Only thing missing now is the left side saddlebag lid. That damn thing is crazy expensive. I'm thinking duct tape at this point :)

FJRs are damn nice looking bikes without side bags. I leave mine off unless I am going on a long ride.
This is my bike that hung out with Jolene a few times.

If you are just using them to tour it really doesn't matter what the bag looks like. The whole bike is going to be dirty any way.

^^^^ The smuggler is so awesome looking.

I also prefer to ride without bags when possible. It shows the pipes and just feels much lighter.

Great to hear that you are making splendid progress on the finished project. Engine back in soon is a monumental step.
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

My favorite color is blue, so my '16 fits right in. However, I miss Jolene and her color. I will always have a special place in my heart for '13's.
