Hi All,,
Looking for an alternate source for the gasket in Chicago area. Very few stealers here. I know of partzilla but looking to see if there is a chance to get some of them another way locally. Yamaha's P/N on them is 214-11198-01-00.
Thanks.

Usually auto part stores have assortments. I used a nylon gasket with no problems. However a metal crush gasket would work too. Even a spark plug gasket is feasible.

Not sure where you are at. But I have filters, gaskets and oil if you need it.

Same answer from the other forum!
My advice don't change it! After 10 years and 240,000 kilometers my bike has not had a new one and has not leaked. Save your money!
My advice...... don't use a torque wrench on the drain bolt either. But use a little bit of blue loctite on the threads.

I took my drain plug down to the auto parts store and got a copper washer that fits it. In fact I got three of them for the FJR, one for the oil drain, one for the final drive drain, and one for the final drive fill. I have reused these for years and none have ever leaked.

in good fun, i opine: were i to follow every warning, caution, hazard, printed yellow triangles / red octagons, and danger! ever put out there by "(those) who are paid a heck of a lot more and have a heck of a lot more experience then us..." i'd be living a VERY boring life, with zero need for any the fine items and farkels alex sells.

I get a metal crush washer from my local Kawi dealer.
19 cents a piece, so I grab a few at a go

I use the crush washer and there is definitely no need to torque it to the incredible 31 ft. lbs. the shop manual recommends.

I use the crush washer from Yamaha on my FJR because my local dealer always tapes one to the filter. For my other bikes, I use the copper crush washer that Honda sells for it's automobiles.....pick them up a dozen at a time at the local dealer.

Are these the same people that warn us not to use a hair dryer in the shower, or put a "contains nuts" warning on a bag of nuts? I thought so....

Hi All.... and thanks for the replies.
Alex comes through again! Put a few off to the side. If it warms back up to Fall, maybe I can take a ride by you before the snow comes! I'll give a shout before.
I could just listen to huron, but if I can get a few washers, I'd like to put one on to be on the safe side.
Barb..... my local Kawi dealer will be shutting the doors very shortly.
Thanks again for the response.
