New to the bike and just finished flushing the radiator. Following instructions from FJR Tech, when I ran the bike to temp the fan would only kick on at 7 bars each time. I expected it to kick on at 4 bars. Does anyone know why this would happen?

I don't remember exactly, but I do know the fans do NOT kick on at 4 bars. 6 or 7 is normal. That's the part I don't remember. My fan has only come on a few times and the bars are way up there.

What man-meat Zilla said. No need to worry. I do think (if memory serves) the GEN I bikes had fewer bars on their scale, so the fan would go on at the same time, but the display would just be different. Never owned a GEN I. Somebody might pipe up on that.

BTW, I had a 2004 Vstar-1100 Classic. Loved that bike until I totaled it.

I won't go into a bar that doesn't have a fan....

My superior GenI kicked on @ 4 bars.

Well dammit Barry, who in the Hell wouldn't?!?!? I hate to have to agree with those fecking ass wipes 'Zilla and Bust, but it is even worse siding with ShinyPartsUp: My 2003 FJR's fan came on at four bars and my 2013 FJR's fan comes on at 6 or 7. Like "Einstein Jr." AJ said: Stress less, ride more! And as the Goat Fucker says: No need to worry!

I could hit 17 bars on a good day riding an me fan never once cycled. Must be a gay thing if it comes on.


However I'm into the 4th day of a planned 90 day bender, an a wee bit tippsy.

A trick for filling the coolant tank is to take it off and fill it, then bolt it back on. This assumes you've pulled the lower fairings off...

And I'd agree about the fan - 6-7 bars before it will kick on typically.

But then, that's just me...

I crash 'em - never toasted one through the abusiveness that is my riding. Now that's a testament to just how solid this platform is - If I can thrash a bike for days on end in the mountains where the rev limiter is used as a shift indicator, then that's some right solid engineering...
