Orchard Rats….

Yesterday John (JREW here) and I rode out into the valley farm land to access the local flooding from the big rain last week. Lots of detours near the Sacramento River.
As I posted in the last report there are a shitton of walnut orchards around here too. As John and I are poking along about 25-30 mph due to a bumpy ass River road a doe comes ripping out of the orchard and plows right into John’s knee hard enough to dent the fuel tank on his pristine 23.
Other than sore he was fine and didn’t go down. We had seen quite a few dead deer along the roads. We all know about forest rats and now orchard rats are a thing too.

Sorry to hear of the closeup deer viewing John. Man that's some dent from a deer. Good job keeping the FJR upright. Healing wishes sent to you for a quick knee recovery.

Yeah, I was thinking he needs a couple small deer stickers to cover the beauty marks.

Scary, so glad for JREW it's just a dented tank.

My days of chasing rats are over (except around the homestead), I'm into wiping out the plant world instead.

Well - this is total crap. I guess the high water has the forest rats scurrying about to find high ground. Down here, BION, sometimes the roadway is the highest ground, especially in the swamp lands.
Isn't it a bit unusual for a flooding rain this time of year? I thought that was more of a Winter/Springtime occurence.
Glad Jrew is OK - the size of that dent is impressive. That was no "glancing blow".

Glad John is OK. That dent looks like it fits the contour of the faring!

Yes, usually the flooding comes from big rain events and/or snow melt in the mountains. It was early for flooding in the central valley but from Sacramento north had a lot of rain in a few days last week, much more than usual for down there. The orchard rats are there year round, I think the body count was more a result of the rut than the high water as some we saw were a bit decomposed to say the least...

First I should say I am elated that he is okay. Second I am impressed he kept it upright. Third and for fact I know JREW has cameras on his bike. I wonder if he caught any of that.

I texted you the video so hopefully after you're done herding cats for the day you can post it up here. It's well beyond my capability, I flunked AV class in high school.

Crap, John, that had to hurt. And it sucks to see that dent in your ride, but very glad there aren't any in you! Looking forward to that video...

Glad John didn't go down.
That storm dropped a lot of snow, I was up in the high Sierra exploring in that snow today. A good start to the snow pack.

John will heal, he's tough. But that isn't going to buff out too easily.
