Does anyone have first hand experience with Ivan's ECU flash? More specifically. Did it really increase fuel mileage?

Thanks

FJRPittsburgh has it. He should weigh in shortly.

Will not increase fuel mileage nor decrease... on Gen3 I wouldn't call it necessary, but ok to have.

In my opinion, there's no need to have Ivan's flash on a Gen 3 unless you have a 2013. The 2013's cruise control is capped at 80 mph. If you're traveling out West, the 80 mph cap is too low. Ivan's flash allows cruise control in every gear and can be set at any speed. I've seen no difference in fuel economy.

I have had Ivan's flash on one of my 2013s for quite a while now. Perhaps 30k, or 40k miles?

I *think* the fuel mileage has increased a little bit when in his 3rd 'smoothness' map. That is where I spend 95% of my time. There are so many factors affecting fuel efficiency it's hard to tell, but my butt dyno says an increase in 1-4 mpg.

As stated above the flash offers some improvements but they are modest. And the 89 octane requirement is kind of a PITA. Though many seem to still use 87 octane with no pinging or adverse effects.

This is an outlier. But here is the best mpg I've gotten with Ivan's flash. During EOM '23 on a group ride where the pace was moderate. Since the group was going slower than I typically would I held back last in line and did some hypermiling techniques. Still, even I was surprised at this high number.

Calculated mpg was 1 mpg less at 57mpg as is typical. Over this many miles.

Madmudder and I both have Gen 3 FJRs with Ivan's flash. His is a Canadian 2014 and mine is a 2013. On our 5000+ mile ride out West in June, Madmudder rode his bike in Ivan's mode and I rode mine in touring mode (mostly). When we would fuel up, Madmudder's bike would always require a little more fuel than my 2013 FJR. We rode together the whole trip.

In 2023, Steel_Gin and I rode together for over 6,000 miles out West. His bike was a Gen 2 with no flash and my 2013 with Ivan's flash. At each fuel fill up, my 2013 with Ivan's flash ridden in touring mode would require more gas than Steel_Gin's 2012 Gen 2.

What does all of this mean? I guess it means when your bike is low on fuel, you have to fill it up. Other than that, I have no worldly idea what any of this means.

My '15 has Ivan's flash as well. No change in fuel economy I've noticed. I do like his "3rd mode" and unless I'm chasing Fontanaman, spend most of my time there. FWIW, my '15 has always been a fuel hog with my best being 42-43 mpg...sometimes much worse. No rhyme or reason but its gotten the worst fuel mileage of all my FJRs.

Maybe you've just learned to ride more aggressively. ;)

Neither one boys. Even with Ivan’s flash I’m still back-of-the-pack tail dragging slow! Now…where’s that hurt feeling report? :)

I was alarmed by the instances of Ivan
-flashed ECU’s bricking during Yamaha recall reflash. Everything else I’ve heard was positive.
