Nowhere is calling the thumpers.

Escapefjrist aka George and I needed to get the singles out for some dirty fun. I really like the wide open spaces of Northeastern Ca , Nevada and southwest Oregon. It is some of the most remote areas to ride in the tri state area  . No people, just critters and cattle. On a rare rain day I traveled up to our base hotel in Cedarville while George traveled down from Washington state. Made for a nice sunset in Alturas. Image

Travel is completed, time to ride!!
Sunday had us traveling out to the Catnip reservoir in the Sheldon Antelope refuge. Great day in the desert albeit a little chilly which is way better than hot.

Then we rode up to the top of Yellow Peak about 7,500 foot elevation. Great view from up there. Image

Day 2 and 3 had us in the Warner mountains west of Cedarville. I have been wanting to explore the forest roads up there for years, today was the day. The Warner’s have close to 10,000 foot peaks and they had a light dusting of snow from Saturday rain. We were about 7,500 at the highest points. BTW the conditions of the gravel was really nice. Kudos to the Modoc National forest peeps.

The forest was a mix of lush vegetation and big trees on the west (rainfall side) and dryer toward the east. There we were treated with stunning views of the Surprise Valley. From many street rides down there on the highway from Gerlach I always wondered what it was like up the high country. Now I know and so does George.

We both remarked about how diverse our riding was between the desert of Nevada and the mountains of California, Ended up riding close to 500 miles of which 85% was off the pavement. Bikes ran great, no tip overs either! I think I can speak for George in saying we had a blast exploring the roads less traveled.

For riding those bikes at that elevation, did either of you re-jet the carbs?

Good report, Doug. That looks like my kind of DS riding.

Can someone please show bug how to post bigger pictures? These deserve the big monitor full screen treatment. Looks like he's using tapatalk and I don't speak tapatalk.

Thanks Pants, no re-jetting necessary and just like the street bikes the mileage goes up, we were getting 55 to almost 60 mpg on the long runs up there. The klr is happy until 10k but Colorado is the only state where one can ride those heights on a regular basis and I don't with the KLR so problem solved.

I was thinking you would really enjoy that area...hint hint

Jason, is there a way to post pics without a second party hoisting pictures? Tapatalk it isn't needed.

Not on this forum. Some have built in storage into the forum software and can copy it locally. I'm on another forum that does this. Of course, that's at the cost of the forum host. I just pay for my own photo storage for the several forums I'm on. But yea, those photos are too epic to be so tiny.

That's why I use the tapatalk as I need the third party funds for tires

I put some on FB, check em out.

I use tapatalk and always just choose Medium for the image size when it comes up on my phone.

If you first post the pictures on ADV Rider (you directly upload) you can then copy the image address and post it here and the picture will show real size.

I had a freaking blast! Thanks to 'Bug for hatching the plan and scoping out terrain. Travel for me was 600-ish miles each way...the RAM ate it up with a quiet, comfortable and speedy ride. Delivered between 19 - 20 mpg too! Hitch carrier was the berries...beats dragging a trailer anytime.

First big trip with DRZ and it ran like a top. I've installed JD Jetting which cleaned up starting, low speed behavior and provided crisp running. According to the JD directions, I set mine for up to 4000(?) ft elevation. But, it ran fantastic at the altitudes we were at and delivered excellent mileage. No complaints expect one. Although I have the SC low comfort seat it's still a brick. At the end of the day I was standing more than sitting!

Only way to carry a lighter bike! Wasn’t crazy about tie down placement but they lasted 1200 miles so must be okey dokie.
