Southeast Ohio Ramble 2024
Beyond The Pavement

On Thursday, loaded up the bike and headed out towards Waldo.
Image

Fried Bologna sandwich, yum!
Image

On through central Ohio on the backroads
Image

Passed a covered bridge no longer over water…
Image

More backroads…
Image

Getting closer to Marietta
Image

Made it to the hotel- 5 ½ hours, 201 miles
Image

Met up with friends and off to dinner at Wings, Etc next door
Image

Friday morning, and had a lovely group of friends to go on an adventure with!
Image

And off we go to explore off the pavement
Image

The merry crew smiling after the first of many fun roads!
Image

Beautiful roads, beautiful trees, just tootling along, enjoying the breeze
Image

We contemplated crossing the river here; but we didn’t, water was too high.
Image

These bikes are outstanding in the field…
Image

Woo hoo!!!!
Image

The road of water crossings was, surprisingly, not as wet as I had expected or hoped.
Image

There were some… and they were still fun!
Image

Passed a covered bridge…
Image

GEESE!
Image

Yes!! Now THAT’S what I want for a water puddle!!!
Image
Deep enough that it rained down on me as I went through!
Image

My new favorite road in the area!!

Pulled over for a bit of a break.
Image

Had a “spicy kitty” pass behind us on the road we had just ridden
Image

Had a rider with a slight oops…
Image

And then another…
Image

Both riders are okay and made it home!

Some nice roads in the back country…
Image

Back to the hotel- 5 ½ hours and 100 miles.
Image

Bike was dirty, that shows a fun day of riding!
Image
Image

Walked to the Mexican restaurant for dinner with friends.
Image

3 margaritas later… this cup made me laugh!
Image

Decided Saturday morning to load up and head home. The day was going to be wet, and Sunday didn’t forecast for anything better. Passed some bicentennial barns
Image
Image

Stopped at the Big Musky Bucket
Image

Backroads were wet, but still enjoyable
Image

Swung through Centerburg, and found the Geographical Center of Ohio
Image
Image

Was about to be intercepted by some hard rain…
Image

Almost home, fairly dry, and another storm in the distance
Image

Trying to race to the garage before the wall of water hits
Image

Safe in the garage- 5 hours, 215 miles
Image

Oh, and the day early made it so I was able to watch the Kentucky Derby Saturday evening- WOW!
Image

And didn't have to rush around on Sunday evening, because I had forgotten to prep and make some horseshoes before I left, and I had these horses to shoe on Monday morning...
Image

A wonderful, albeit short, weekend of riding and hanging out with friends. Some much needed therapy.

That DS ride looked like a ton of fun. I couldn't figure out what the "oopsies" were, but the important thing is they are safe.

I know you have experience with a DRZ - how do you compare it to the KLR?

Apples to Oranges? At least in my eyes.

Each bike does what I want it to do.
No way would I have been able to ride the DRZ down to here, but I would have been able to ride the "black diamond" hero section; that I didn't ride on the KLR. So they serve different purposes for me.

Where's Waldo...... did you find him? ;)

Kentucky Derby, that's the MotoGP of ponies, right?

All I saw was Fried Bologna which reminded me of my grandmother and the screen went blurry.... I'll be back when you fix that.

Awesome report as usual Julie!

I figure it's less I have to wash.... Not that I've ever washed this bike though....

Nice ride report Julie. I didn't know you got a pic of the Bob cat. Nice. I already replaced my broken clutch lever and installed a set of Tusk hand guards, so hopefully I don't break another lever. Although now I have spares in the trunk. I got an ex-ray and have 2 broken ribs. ugh.
Even with the broken thing it was a lot of fun and thanks for leading us off road. It was a blast. Can't wait for next time.

Sorry to hear about the ribs Art. I hope you aren't in too much pain. Heal quickly! Loose gravel on sharp turns isn't exactly confidence inspiring.

Waldo is a quaint little town that has 3 bars, a beer distribution warehouse, an ice cream stand, and no stop lights...
But one of those bars serves a famous fried bologna sandwich and delicious homemade fruit pies and cream pies (which I should have gotten instead of the onion rings).

It's definitely a town that would be easy to pass by and never realize the goodness that is on that corner.

No cell reception in the building and a cash only establishment, but friendly faces greet you when you walk in.

Dang, sorry to hear about the ribs! Glad to hear the bike is fixed and you're ready for the next ride.
