Home safely after my round trip from home to the South and back. 4287.6 miles total. It was a fantastic trip! I made it to Wheaton's Pot Luck Ride, SFO, a ride with Dan in Florida, and another ride with Ed in Georgia. I also got to visit my Daughter in Louisiana and my Son in Florida.

Too many people to thank along the way. A quick shout out to Jim and Iris and Ed (Toter) for graciously sharing their homes with me. Also to Turk and Jana for an incredible SFO and Wheaton and Louanne for the Potluck ride. Thanks to Dan and Ed for leading rides in Florida and Georgia. Thanks to Wayne for bleeding my clutch line at Wheatie's house and solving my clutch disengagement issue. And thanks to Gerbings for keeping me warm and comfy on three mornings with temperatures in the lower 30's.

During the whole 19 day excursion, I never rode in rain. Kind of amazing.

After my first cross country trip to Northern California and this extended ride, I'm ready for more long trips next year.

Jeff, it was great to have you at the doublewide. The pigs took a liking to you...but Charlie and Buster kept their distance. lol

I do have a bone to pick with you, though. I refuse to believe that either PIT or TN is greater than SC. I can certainly believe the other...but you do need to edit your report. :-)

That looks like a fantastic way to connect a bunch of dots all timed about perfect. Sounds like a productive and fun ride.

Excellent riding season to say the least. I enjoyed meeting you in Ft, Bragg in June and then visiting again in Alabama a couple weeks ago at Turks.

I wonder where we will cross paths next year?

Somewhere between California and Pennsylvania. 🙂 Great seeing you too Doug!

Did you take any pictures along the way??

Super cool trip - glad that clutch bleed at Wheaton's did the trick and it wasn't something more - and high-five to Tommy848 for the fluid and hose!!

Definitely thanks to Tommy for the fluid and hose. I knew I'd forget someone. Sorry Tommy. You saved the day for sure!

Yeah, I took a few pics along the way. I'll have to post some when I can. Or, I'll show you next time I see you. :D

So on my trip from Tampa, FL to Northern Georgia to see Ed, I had a confusing experience. Ed and I checked tire pressure before riding on a cold Saturday morning. My rear tire was at 34 psi. I told Ed that I inflated the tire in real warm conditions in Florida. He helped me look for a nail in the rear tire, but the tire looked clean. We reinflated the tire to 42 psi and rode some nice twisty roads through Suches and then returned to his house.

We rechecked tire pressure and my rear tire was up to 46 psi. That confirmed no leak for me. From Ed's, I ride to Abingdon, VA for the night. Not worried about tire pressure, I ride home to Pittsburgh the next day.

I just purchased a new small battery operated tire pump. I went out to my garage later in the day and the tire pressure was back down to 34 psi. I inspected the tire again for a nail and found it immediately. I suspect the thin nail had been embedded in the rear tire for some time, but was undetectable earlier in the trip.

I plugged it, pumped up the rear tire to 42 psi, and checked the pressure the following day. Still at 42 psi. The slow tire leak has been resolved. Since I've switched from Shinko Raven 009's to Dunlop Roadsmart 3's, I've picked up 3 nails in the rear tire. Not the tire's fault, just bad luck.

Yeah, those Dunlop RS3s are nail magnets!

Glad you got home okay with no roadside assistance required.

Ummmm. Pictures?? (No, not of you...)

You need TPMS. You would have known a problem was brewing much earlier.

I felt bad that you came to my hometown when I was not home! Another time, I'm sure - pls make sure your daughter knows she can call me if she needs anything.

No reason to feel bad. You invited me to meet with you, Marty, Doug, and others, but I didn't want to leave my daughter's house early.

Also you are another person I failed to thank for sending me some interesting routes to and from my daughter's house. I appreciated the effort. We'll get to ride together at some point. You always have a place to stay at our house when you're in the area. Bring extra shampoo! 🙂
