YTX is 6 x 3 7/16 x 5 3/4
YT is 6 1/8 x 2 3/4 x 5 3/4, the OE is YT14B-BS or GS14B-4

My independent dealer suggested a FirePower CTX14 would fit, YTX size. It does but for the retaining bracket.

Surely I am not the first to do this. Any suggestions as to how to hold the battery other than the wire ties I have used?

Else I return this one for a proper FirePower CT14B-4.

I wouldn't use wire ties. They would eventually chafe through and break (or chafe through the battery case). AGM batteries are heavy and with vibration, I think you would eventually run into problems. Personally, I would swap it for one that fits.
(Given the larger volume, I would assume the YTX has higher ampere-hour capacity?)

I know that people use rigid (polyurethane?) foam to make smaller lithium batteries fit the space so they can use the built-in clamp, but the foam is not abrasive and the lithium chemistry batteries are much lighter. If the YTX was smaller, I think you might get away with something like that to fill excess space in order to use the clamp but not to try to make a larger battery fit.

Wire ties are not really wire, but plastic ties for holding wires. Right?

Understood, but the nylon generally used in wire ties is likely harder than the (probably) polypropylene in the battery case and the inevitable vibration of the motorcycle environment is likely to cause a problem eventually. Should be noted that IF there is even a minor seepage of acid that nylon ties will disintegrate quite quickly. You might be OK or maybe not. As I said, I wouldn't do it.
