I don't know how many of you on this forum new Dave as I don't think he made it out for one of the events on that side of the country. But I think some of you may have met him when traveling out this way.
I'm sad to have to share this news but Dave/Highlander passed away yesterday morning from a heart attack. It was very sudden and unexpected. Diane, his wife, called me to let me know and asked me to share with his moto friends. She is surrounded by family at the moment so has lots of support. I had just visited them a couple of weeks ago on my way back from a moto rally in Ely and we spent a few hours together getting caught up. They were both retired, very happy grandparents, and had gotten an RV and were going to leave on a month long trip on Monday and circle around through La Pine to see everyone. He was one of the really good ones and will be missed greatly.
On my last visit with them...
On a ride-to-eat a few years ago...
Riding over Sonora Pass with me and Brian/festar in 2017...
I'm sure I have some more pics to share and will do so when I have the bandwidth...

Oh no! Not Highlander!
I met Dave in person one time, out in 2011, during the rolling Clusterfeck. Rode with him more during the Northern California portion where we did a 400 mile loop with big Ray and others from the coast to Yreka and points south. He rode behind me, playing nursemaid, in the mountains right after I plugged my tire for the second time that day. I was fortunate on that trip to see in person, people I had met and befriended online five years before.
I saw many wonderful friends on that trip, beemerdons, FJRay, and Highlander among them. My heart is sad to hear of Dave's passing. Very sad!!!!
If I can find some old photos of Dave from that RR, I will post them.

Sad, sad news ...... our thoughts are with Diane and family.
Deb and I have many, many hundreds of miles and many many smiles riding with the "Highlander" and Diane. Our friend since 2004 at WFO-2. He'll be sorely missed.
Our last encounter was the northern CA coast and then into Bandon, OR, where we downed a few Guinness at an Irish pub.
Dave, a truly fine fellow ............... damn!

One of my favorite Dave pictures from Crowley Lake Dam in the eastern Sierra's while we were out exploring on our S10's. Dave and Diane were always a joy to be around and I was looking forward to seeing both in La Pine next month. Going to miss that guy.

Bloody Hell is right! You know...we may have said three sentences together during that day I rode with him...but man, the guy will be missed. Sitting at a table with Ray and Dave and others on that day...listening in to the stories and back and forth teasing, sitting with people you've sparred/teased with for years, people whom you've felt that connection with via FJRs...it didn't get any better than that.
He still had many good years left in him...so I feel really sad for his wife and family.
Bloody hell!
I found it...far left at the famous road sign...

I did not know Dave. That is to say we never met. But his reputation proceeded him. I wish peace soon for his family.
Something is happening, my friends. Sooner or later, gravity always wins. The time for me and my wife is NOW. No more waiting. We only get one.
Now.

I never met Dave, only knew him from "Highlander" posts from the past. All my best to his family and friends who rode with him. Gone too early obviously.
