My Way is the Highway

Image
My younger days were thrown away with staring down a long highway
Waiting for a chance to dance my dance to the tune of the open road
Image
Freedom seems like a hopeless dream to southern wild child still in my teens
Never been scared with a soul that compared to the way that the river flows
Image
Forewarned but free I was born to be my old man
No one but me to understand just how I am

Image
Don't want it for me don't know where I'll be today
Cause I'll do things my way and my way is the highway
Image
The sound of the train still rocks my brain the road makes the blood pulse through my veins
And my age doesn't cage or disengage the man I was born to be
Image
Like my dad once said son when your dead its just you and your story wrote above your head
The good lord knows the highway is my home
Image
Forewarned but free I was born to be my old man
No one but me to understand just how I am
Image
Don't want it for me don't know where I'll be today
Cause I'll do things my way and my way is the highway

Did they ever make a Super Motard version of the DR650? Looks like it would be right at home for this hop...

Many have so modified to an SM but nothing OEM. 17" front shortens the rake a bit too much. Steering gets heavy. A 19" front is a good compromise. Hits a decent sweet spot on handling and broadens tire choice.

Or rigging a set of non-leading forks (Some older Triumph 43mm forks & 320 mm brake rotor swap in nicely) allows for a 17" front and shortens the wheelbase for proper SM handling.

I keep thinking about a 19" front wheel w/ rotor investment for remaining barn rat bike. Decent handling and still gravel runner/adventure travel capable...and a hell of a lot less expensive than a Versys, new or used. But DR is never going to be as much fun as the twin. Conflicted. Winter will resolve the quandary one way or the other.

One of my favorite roller coaster hooligan roads.
Used to be a destination just for the purpose of running it when I owned a Versys.
