initial impressions

other than the clutch issue my new to me '08 seems pretty squared away so i took out for a couple of tankfuls on sunday. in 20+ years of motorcycles this my first with a windscreen, i can definitely get used to it (though a little bigger may be in my future). the fjr handles a lot better than i had anticipated, it's absolutely beautiful in sweepers and not too shabby in 30 mph posted bends. we don't really have anything tighter than that in Iowa so i can't speak to the twisty's. pretty sure a speeding ticket is in my near future, i'm having a hard time gauging speed by feel. it's a lot buzzier than my speed triple, but not enough to worthy anything but a slight mention. my only real complaint is the stock seat, it is complete rubbish. about 250 miles in this weekend my ass was definitely getting sore on some pressure points, not enough to kill the pleasure of the ride, but FFS a sport touring seat should be better than that of my speed triple.

all in all it seems to be a good usable bike, a couple minor tweaks and she'll be amazing.

Good to hear your a lot happier then when you first posted. Spot on about the stock seat, get in touch with Seth Laam, he will hook you up for a great price.

Alternately, Russell usually had a group discount kick off during the off season. It's cross-platform to get the numbers up for larger discounts. Watch the forums and jump in when you see someone post the details.

the day longs look comfy as all get out, but it looks like moving around during corners may be restricted. how is the russell if one moves around in the seat a bit in corners?

i also like everything i'm seeing in the laam seat, a really dig his business model on first impression.

i don't need a lot to be comfortable, many complain about the stock speed triple seat, i find it perfectly acceptable for long days in the saddle.
