Tire Mounting Lube?

Post by N4HHE »

Initial supply of NoMar lube is scrapping the barrel. Expensive, doubly so with shipping. No complaints about function but it is time to recompete the contract.

Looking at locally available options suggests Ru-Glyde is highly respected but am questioning whether the 8 pound bucket of paste or the gallon of liquid? Could get both to answer the question myself but that might be a 30 year supply. Currently use a combination of NoMar in water plus sprayer, and the paste.

Anyone tried both?

Have problems with one or the other?

I've had a gallon of RuGlyde liquid for several years, works pretty well mixed 50-50 with water and a hand spray bottle. I'm almost out, so I'm gonna say it's been 10 years. It doesn't go bad.
I have a jar of NoMar paste that came with my Cycle Hill changer... haven't used it, but I'm told you can mix that with water and spray it also.

Wheatie says that RuGlyde also works on sheep, so it serves a dual purpose around the homestead..

Now I’m confused....so, you apply the NoMar to the sheep's nether regions?

I use non-ammonia aerosol window cleaner in a spray can. Works for everything. Almost.

I have a product called “ Bull Snot”. Don’t get it on the garage floor and lean into torquing the wheel while on the changer. If your foot is on that and you attempt to lean, you will wind up on the floor.

Napa or AutoZone sells something similar.

I did too. However, I always seem to be changing my tires in July and man that stuff dries out quick on a hot tire. It got the job done. When I got my NoMar I got a tube of their paste. No going back to soapy water for me.

Murphys Concentrated Paste comes in an 8lb tub of slick thick snotty stuff than can also be diluted with water and used in a spray bottle. Based on my use I'd say the tub is a lifetime supply for you and anyone you'd care to share with. Amazon Link

Yes, total cost is about the same either way. Pep Boys offers a gallon of Ru-Glyde for $13, half what a pint of NoMar costs.
