Help me find a smokin deal on a Gen 4

Post by fencer »

I have sold the GSXR and Supermoto.
Cutting to one bike, but I want to get a gen 4 before selling my gen 2 to take my goodies off and seeling my 06 as I know I won't get their worth out of it.
Be my eyes and help me find a smokin deal.

I am patient.
I see Dan is looking at a 16 so I wont get it.

My brother just sold a pristine 2016 ES for $10,400. Wish I was the buyer.
It's a good day to ride

If only there was some pompous self absorbed individual who crowned himself king of all things FJR here to tell you it's not a Gen 4.

ES works the clickers in forks and shock in addition to spring preload.

Reading the FSM and other internet posts suggests the ES ECU has a fit if it isn't connected to ES forks and ES shock.

The Traxxion AK-20 may not be adaptable to an USD fork.

Am glad I don't have an ES altho USD forks are sexy.

Fencer, what state are you in? How far are you willing to travel to pick it up?
I bet lots of people here are happy to help you spend your money. I had to travel to Wisconsin but the prices beat anything in Michigan by $2,000.

Well, I like to call it the Gen III.6

ES USD forks will not be compatible with your traxxion fork stuff. Nor would I put an aftermarket shock on the ES.

Stick with the 'A' version and swap your suspension goodies if that is what you are happy with.

I have a feeling buying jwilly's "gently used" bike would be like dating a porn star.

I'll be the devil's advocate... save some bucks.... buy a '13-'15 in whatever colour floats your boat... plenty of low milers around if you're patient and can strike at the opportune moment. I personally prefer used bikes rather than taking the hit on a new one.
$350 will get you the parts for a slipper clutch.. BTW, when have you ever found you needed one on an FJR?
$50 will get you LED headlights that are brighter than Gen4.
Ivan flash (if you think you need it) fixes cruise limits and improves performance ~$400?
FJR has one of the best 5 speeds ever. 6 speed plus Euro4 emissions slowed it down a tad, although you'll have just as much fun regardless.
Get an A, transfer your rear shock. Front forks have only one working cartridge on right side.... your AK20 set from Gen2 only work if you bring the entire fork set with you.
No one (yet, to my knowledge) has tried to get aftermarket stuff for ES. Lotsa talk but no action, and suspension companies say... bring it in we'll have a look and see what we can do. I'd only do that if I had an ES and wanted upgrades (a few do).
No big depreciation hit, someone's already done that for you.
Maybe you'll get lucky and someone has farkles or seat that works (take your Gen2 seat with you). New one has to be farkled from scratch.

Flights are cheap. Don't think of it as picking up your motorcycle, think of it as your first trip and a new adventure with the new to you bike. Aside from the initial flight, all the expenses are the same ones you'd make on the trip, so the cost savings still applies.

I'm kind of hoping that my next bike will be a "fly-n-ride" for this reason. Not sure when that will happen, but I'd like to experience what Jasen describes.
