They are sealed. Likely grease is excess from last spline lube, not bearings. Wipe off and ride.

Agree with Ray's response but are you sure it is grease? There is a possibility of a seal going in the pumpkin and the residue is actually lube from the final drive. What is the consistency and where are you seeing it? (Can also happen if the wheel is rotated while filling the final drive - end out with an overfill which leads to leakage.)

Message deleted because it was way way way inappropriate. Funny none the less, but even I know it might have offended someone. If you want to know what I was thinking, just imagine what Bust was thinking.

Wipe off excess, remove fill bolt and visually inspect level. Should satisfy your curiosity and cure your angst...or at least be enlightening.

Inappropriate? Offended? On THIS board? It must have been WAY across the line.

If the splooge is all over the final drive, then oil likely sprayed out the vent (if overfilled). Around the wheel hub would be spline grease from the inside.
The real way of course is to check fluid level (likely normal now) and pull the rear wheel and wipe off some excess. You can peek at the nice orange wheel bearing seal inside the hub and it should be dry (I'm betting on it, never saw a wheel bearing seal come out of place).. put it back together and ride more, worry less.

While all that is possible.....

I've said it before and I'll say it again. In umpteen gazillion miles on several FJRs I have had many occurrences of splooge on the wheels and final drive. The source of said splooge has *never* been from the FD vent nor grease from the splines. It has *always* been from FD oil weeping past the driveshaft seal and coming out the weep hole on the bottom of the swingarm. And checking the FD fluid level won't tell you squat. A 'little' leaked FD oil goes a 'long' way into making a big mess.

Cav - get your mind out of the gutter. I'm talking FD oil splooge!

I found some photos of two prior occurrences of FD oil weepage and resulting wheel splooge. These are much worse than the *usual* times it happens where it is only a little bit. No notable drop in oil level. Like I said, a little spilt FD milk makes a big mess!

This next one I had the seal on the driveshaft replaced not too long after this occurrence. It never weeped this bad again, but I still would occasionally have *small* ones.

^^^^Thats been my experience as well. Changing out the seal stopped it from doing that, but it never leaked enough oil to appear low in the filler port, despite the huge mess.

If anyone is an expert on leaking splooge, it is Skooter.

Scooter, looks about right.

Which part did you replace?

#12 - Oil Seal.

I did not have the tools or knowledge to do it myself. So I removed the FD and took it to the only dealer I trust. I believe he may have disassembled and replaced other seals/O-rings when he did it. It was so long ago I can't remember all the details. But #12 is the offender. The oil seal that keeps the oil in the FD and from coming through where the driveshaft enters the FD.

It was my #12 oil seal that got replaced as well, in 2009 or '10. No problems since.

I don't get it.. you asked about wheel bearings which would imply some minor grease/oil splatter. Now you post pics of an obvious seal issue. If that's your actual condition, you knew the answers already. What are you trolling for?

I've lost track of who's who in all the personal pronouns of "you" and "he" and "they", etc.

Anyone have a playbill?

Put down the alcohol. Is the smoke getting to you? Fencer didn't post any pictures. Skooter posted pictures and Fencer agreed that those pictures look like the issue he's having. Don't get me wrong, Fencer is a troll, but a different kind than the one you are referencing.

My first question has to be, how do you know anything about vaginas?
