Creek Don't Rise

Growin’ up in the shadow of the hill
Growin’ up with the rattle of the pills
Everybody get nervous when the mines close down
In the hollow young and old
There’s one thing make ya blood run cold
When the rain starts rollin’ on top the ground
Ya better get yourself to high ground yeah
Remember one day walkin’ ta church
Grandma said her elbow hurt
When it started to rain it was no surprise
Said it’s gonna come down real hard
Baby get ya toys up out ta yard
Pray the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Pray the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Ain’t no shelter when the mountain cries
Pain in ya heart fallin’ from the sky
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Cause there ain’t no shelter when the mountain cries
Bow your head and close your eyes
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Let me tell they ain’t no blues
Sittin’ round when the man on the news say
Everybody buckle down, it’s gonna get bad
Granddaddy starts tellin’ you
‘bout a bad storm back in ‘82
When him and Granny lost every damn thing they had
One minute…????… it sure got bad
Ain’t no shelter when the mountain cries
Pain in ya heart fallin’ from the skies
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Ain’t no shelter when the mountain cries
Bow your head and close your eyes
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
yeah yeah yeah
.
.
.
Remember wonderin’ what Grandma meant
Didn’t know it was a lifetime spent
Eyeballin’ that creek every time it rained yeah
Startin’ over after every flood
With the yard full of trash and a house full of mud
Everything they owned washed down the drain yeah
All their hopes and dreams right down the drain yeah
Ain’t no shelter when the mountain cries
Pain in your heart fallin’ from the skies
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
No they ain’t no shelter when the mountain cries
Bow your head and close your eyes
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Well the good Lord willin’ the creek don’t rise
Reprise…
