Stripped all the tailpiece plastic off today and was surprised to see how much storage space there was under the rear seat, especially towards the back. Now I've got to go buy something to put in there!

Looks like you already got the jump on something electrical under there with those red and yeller wires.

Good place to hide illegal drug paraphernalia. At least that's what I heard, when on a group ride, With Bill Lumberg and Wheaton..

You can have a really nice, extra large mouse nest in there too. It was a nice touch to use the insulation out of my walls.

I shouldn't have taken my flat kit out before storing the bike, there wouldn't have been room for the mouse house.

This is what lives in the tail section, it all fits neatly in the kit bag:

Having used the kit on my way to EOM I have since added pliers to remove the (what ever) object from the tire. Thank goodness Good Pillion had an awesome Leatherman to bail me out that day.

On another trip to EOM we got caught in a massive rain storm less than 10 miles from the hotel. We pulled over at a Dollar Store to get towels of some sort and planned to dilly-dally until the rain let up. I found a bundle of good quality micro fiber towels for -- a dollar. A few of these now live under the seat along with the flat repair kit. The micro fiber towels do wonders for cleaning bugs off the windshield. The towels are in a large trash bag along with another folded trash bag, the plastic bags can be real useful some times. I also have a tool kit under the seat. I have a LED flashlight in there someplace. Other things come and go depending on the mission.

That guy's a cook for a reason.

I can vouch for the mouse nest thing. Twice now. This year, if minnie or mickey want to use my bike for a nest, they'll have to run the gauntlet of 7 different kinds of mouse traps, and 1 home made

I keep some shop rags in a plastic bag in the side bag. I should move them to that storage. I agree on the large trash bag coming in good sometimes.

Being from Florida most of the time I don't even carry rain gear. It's too much of a pain and too hot to put it on. Just go through the rain and dry off.

Well, that doesn't work when you are on the BRP in North Carolina. We were visiting my son in Asheville and it's about 85 degrees in town and not supposed to rain that day. I leave my rain gear behind on a day ride. We get up to the BRP and it's nice. We get an hour or two down the road and it starts to rain and rain and rain. I am soaked and getting cold.

We stop at a Ranger station to get under the shelter. The rain is not letting up and it's getting late in the day. Luckily the nice Ranger gave me a trash bag. I put it under my mesh jacket and I was fine to finish the ride back to Asheville.

I wasn't really in danger, but was very uncomfortable. Stuff like that is nice to have on a bike just in case.

We should start a thread "What's hiding underneath your motorcycle seat?"

My contribution would be a couple dozen lines long....

Can I include mice or will it be limited to items you intentionally placed there? I can also share mouse larder pictures, most of you know it as an air filter.

My friend you are one of the few people I know that could write an interesting and eloquent article on "What's under your motorcycle seat."

You guys have me interested now. I wish my FJR was at the house so I could check under the seat tonight. Normally I just keep the Corbin Smuggler on there while doing day rides. I only take the Smuggler off and put on the rear seat when I am going on a trip. I found Sealine Dry bags go right on the rear seat and rack and with help of Rok Straps never shift during a ride.

I guess I have failed to really look at the room under the seat.

I keep my FJR in a cargo trailer. So it's sealed up tight. There is only one hole a mouse could possible come through. That is where the electric cord goes out. It's like an RV cord. We roll that one up and just put an extension cord in the hole to run the battery tenders. Then the hole is taped with duct tape. So far nothing has ever gotten in the trailer. Really it's not mice I worry about it's squirrels that do the damage around my place.
