Currently I have a Cee Bailey basically stock windshield on my 14. Thinking about a larger touring windshield for the winter. I see folks have the Yamaha and the Vstream windshields, probably others out there. I am 6'2" if that makes any difference. Would like to hear pros and cons of the bigger windshields. Thanks.

I’m just short of 6’2” ..I use a Yamaha touring screen with a MRA X-Creen on top. I rarely have the windshield all the way up.

I prefer the Cee Bailey largest screen in the winter. But with the gear I have now, I’d be okay with the Yamaha touring screen or the vstream 20308 year round.

Absolutely love my VStream Sport Touring shield on the ‘15. Was always a Cee Bailey fan for my previous FJRs, but the VStream beats all of them hands down!

Just like in Sex it is not so much about the size but the angle of the dangle!

With both my stock WS and the Yamaha Touring WS I found that shimming the WS more vertical eliminated head buffeting and made me more comfortable.

Easy to do on the Gen 3 bikes by inserting a spacer between the sheet metal carrier and the cast piece that raises and lowers the windscreen. You may need longer screws if the spacer you use is greater than 1/8" thick. I found aluminum spacers at a ACE Hardware store in the Nuts and Bolts section.

Tall VStream here year round. Shimmed the front less vertical (opposite of bigjohn) to allow more airflow underneath to reduce turbulence/quieter/more stable. Sides of the VStream are curved such that you can raise or lower a bit and it changes the airflow on your torso.

To expound, I find the stock screen to be a joke.

The Yamaha touring screen is what the bike should come with, and I could live with it for the life of the bike. Sometimes it seems 1/4 to 1/2” short, leaving me to feel what perceive as buffeting at the top of my helmet, but often it’s just fine.

The vstream 20309 (tall) looked, to me, like a clown shoe, and the “ears” at the top wagged incessantly in the wind. The cutouts on the sides left the long shield with, I imagined, insufficient support for a screen that tall. If I had shimmed it like rayzerman, I’m sure this perception would have lessened.

The vstream 20308 is superb. But really, it’s very similar in performance to the Yamaha touring screen, except I get more wind/buffeting on my shoulders, particularly noticeable in the winter. Love the shield.

My Cee Bailey barn door gives the best winter (and LD) coverage, is the quietest over all conditions, and is my preferred winter shield, though I would still enjoy the bike without it.

You’re tall. I’d try a 20309. If it was too high or wagged on you, shim it with rays instructions. If you didn’t like it, I might buy it from you to try it shimmed.

If you want to try the 20308, or the Yamaha touring (or both, one at a time), I’ll meet you halfway and you can try mine for a month or two. Say the word.

I wish Cee Bailey would start making shields again, or that someone would start making their patterns.

Im a short guy with short legs/taller torso. I have no complaints with my stocker. But im not a giant brute like griff or a space cowboy like Lumberg. Of course, I am rarely riding in as much shitty weather in February like y'all trying to get points for the win.

Says the guy I met one time for breakfast after he’d ridden a long way in below freezing weather. And rode with most of the day at below or near freezing. For fun.

Just under 6', and this is what im thinking. I have the yamaha touring screen but still get a small amount of buffet, much much reduced from stock and could probably live with it. Thinking the mra would be handy for my long western trip planned. 1600 miles to just begin the scenic touring, so less fatigue im thinking.

Pulled the trigger on a Vstream 20309 - the big touring windshield. Got a returned one from Revzilla for $160, not a bad deal. Let's see how it woiks.

Thinking about staying around rapid city then hit needles highway, devils tower, etc. If your near we should plan to at least meet up. If i dont have the mra, ill take you up on the offer.

For a cheap alternative to the MRA, I used one of these on my little Honda. Very universal mounting and fully adjustable. The deflector itself is a non-coated plastic which may discolour with a couple of years age perhaps, but just buy another one.... I find the thing works very well.

1 vote for the large Cee Baileys. It is my cold weather shield.

The tall Cee Bailey on my 2006 was perfect in the fall and wintertime, it was so quiet also. They stopped selling screens when I purchased my 18 so ended up with the VStream. Not a big fan of it, the CB was alot quieter.

I’m only 11 hours drive north of Rapid City..

At 5' 11" (now probably 5' 10") I kept the OEM stock 2003 shield (shorter than later generations) and added the Ahamay touring shield. I use the shorty in the summer and the other in the winter.
