Nice write up DC.

The old Honda V4's used a similar 2 coil wasted spark setup like that. One of the members in the V4 forum had an Interceptor I think it was where he wired in modern cop's because the original coils were unobtainium by that time. It was a pretty slick factory look mod.

The early to mid 80's V4s would occasionally crack the coils but as they aged the thing that went bad was the 'igniter module' that switched the coils. For some reason Honda didn't feel it was necessary to stock these parts after the V4 run was completed. Having taken some apart I found the most common problems were water infiltration which led to corrosion or cracked solder joints. The solder issues could be fixed. A couple of the Sab/Mag guys tried to design a replacement module but it never really went anyplace. The last BIG Sab/Mag event will be taking place in Abbott Village Me in the middle of September (2019). There aren't many Sab/Mag/Interceptors left in riding condition and the event sponsors are having health issues. There are a lot of FJRs at the Honda event.

Yes, those igniter modules were the other part of ignition failures on those V4's. Dynatek developed replacement coils that were a direct fit for the V45's and V65's, and they also offered a direct fit plug n play igniter module kit that replaced both oem igniters.
