Some of you guys have replaced the horn on your FJR. Is this just a standard part you are buying at an Auto store?
I assume it's an easy replacement that even a bad mechanic like myself can do?

Also my wife wants to put one on her Indian Scout. I would think the same horn that is used as a replacement on an FJR would work just as well on almost any bike.

! You just reminded me I've got a pair of these in the shed that I never installed. Lets see, I bought them at the last house... so, I've had them for at least 2 years, likely double that.

I guess I don't like rushing into things. Considering I haven't had the chance to ride my bike for two weeks now and the temps have gone to single digits.. could you remind me in the spring?

Fiamm Freeway Blaster horns have been popular for use on the FJR as well as the Nautilus Compact air horn. I used a pair of the Freeway Blasters for a long time and eventually they lost their punch from grit getting inside, so I switched to the air horn. Either one works great. Take a look in the fjrforum and you will find a lot of discussion about horns and how people installed them.

Looks like the PIAA is pretty much plug and play.

Just order them from Amazon. I will try a pair on the FJR. Then probably put them on all the bikes.
Well, except the Valkyrie. That bike came stock with a great horn.

Not exactly plug and play. The Gen2 came with 2 horns so the wiring is already there. Gen3 come with one horn, you'll have to add the crossover wiring.

Not exactly plug and play. The Gen2 came with 2 horns so the wiring is already there. Gen3 come with one horn, you'll have to add the crossover wiring.

So basically a third wire that goes from the positive of one horn to the negative of the other horn?

Only if you want to have a horn that sounds like a fart. Positive to both. Negative of both to ground.

One used to be able to get PIAA's in 500 and 600...... is more of a European sound, while the 400-500 is more like a standard 'Merican car.

The PIAAs aren't quite plug-and-play, but installation is pretty simple. Used a three-blade connector to add the crossover wire on mine -- two feet of 20 or 22 AWG is sufficient for the crossover. The three-blade solderless terminal connected the power wire to the original location and allowed the 'crossover' wire to get the same signal from the horn button. The crossover wire gets wire-tied to the plastic radiator grid.

Mounted the units with the stock mounting screw on one side, and a radiator mounting screw on the other side. If you're not banned from the FJRForum, look here.

A three-blade terminal looks like this, but any terminal that allows you to piggyback another wire will work.
