Hello everybody, great to be here.
Irish guy living in Van BC Canada. I ride a Big ol cruiser. Recently decided to add 2010 FJRa-1400 k on it.
Unfortunately 'it' and I are off to a bad start.
Took wife out yesterday for her first go round, as I geared down at first 4 way stop it cut out but I Managed to start it again.
This happened 7-8 more times, I pulled over and put it in neutral and blipped throttle whereupon it would frequently cut out
or rev roughly. After several more [1] in particular close calls with traffic I spared my wife any more and left group to head
home. Same deal toward home, relieved to get there.
Before I take any other action Im posting to see what recent info pertains to this with FJR owners. Its my first time on this
forum, friend in Europe recommended I throw this to this forum.
Im pissed off and keen to see what Im dealing with, cant think of a better place to start process.
Thanks and safe riding.

Well sorry to hear about the FJR problem. Mostly these bikes are rock solid and certainly a 2010 with low kilometers. Unless you have mechanical skills I suggest taking it to a dealer and have the issue diagnosed. If you are lucky you bought it with an extended warranty. If not consider the repair bill a price of admission and soon it will be a vanished memory.

Not many FJRs out here with problems like you noted.

When it cuts out do you think it is a fuel problem or an electrical problem? I'm no mechanic, but if the lights and displays are dieing too, I would try something simple like making sure battery connections are tight. If it is fuel, it is beyond me. I'm sure others will pipe up. Welcome and best of luck.

Another option is to check out FJRforum.com, which has a large reservoir of accunulated threads and resources that may help.

Welkome to the nutty house. Sorry to hear about your trouble. These bikes generally bullet proof.

As Shiny said, check all of the connections and maybe spend a weekend going over the whole bike. Old fuel I suppose could be an issue as well. This bikes generally see 1400 km in one weekend and not in 3 yrs.

Alex and Mick are right, check all of the connections and jettison the old fuel. Inactivity on these machines has historically resulted in problems, every springtime we see folks living in Winter Wonderlands with a handful of fiascoes due to sitting all winter. Rarely, if never, do you see an FJR with these gremlin plaques in warm southern climes like Arizona and SoCal.

You are among Fine Fenian Friends here on FJRiders: ShinyPartsUp - McNamara, Old Michael - O'Keeffe and BeemerDonS - Stanley. SPU family's from the Gaeltacht west, OM's family is from Hogan Square in Dublin and BeemerDonS family emigrated from Slane in County Meath centuries ago. Even HotRodZilla is part Irish, he is Mexican from the belly button up and full Irish from his dick on down! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

So, a couple things to rule out before you start spending money.

Shiny said it and I'll repeat it. Verify your battery connections are tight and verify your battery is good. These bikes have a very hard time with marginal batteries and show many of the same symptoms your bike is showing.

Verify your idle speed is 1100 RPM. Some are more sensitive than others. A low idle speed can explain your dying issues, but the rough running may be something else.

Fuel can also be an issue. If you know how, drain the tank, put fresh fuel and run some SeaFoam or a good fuel injector cleaner through the system. Removing the tank is very easy, but if you can't, just try the chemicals and see what happens.

Other easy stuff to look for are cracked or loose vaccume caps, but I kind of doubt it on a 2010. How many miles does it have, and how old are the spark plugs?? My bike hates old plugs and others tolerate them just fine.

My guess is it's something simple and cheap to fix. Keep us posted.

Thanks all. All codes check out ok which is good, fuel pump pressure is good also, got new plugs and air filter in today, mechanic was still onit this eve.
Will pick it up tomorrow and see if anything was found, then take it for a long [hopefully] ride. Miles are 1400 kilometers hotrodzilla, pretty low really.
I had tickover pretty close to 1100ish, throttle blip at neutral was still sluggish this morn before I took to garage. Gimme a few days and I'll post again.
Cheers

Welcome from south of the border!

As others have indicated, make sure the idle is at least 1100 RPM...there have been a couple '10s in the Seattle area that had similar symptoms as yours. Problems were cured with a higher idle. Consider attending the PNW Tech Day coming up in early May. There will be 30 - 40 FJRs on hand to check out and tons of information sharing. Hi again, following on to my last post, plugs-air filter-throttle bodies-fuel pump, pressure etc-connections - codes- all check out ok.
They [dealer] think fuel pump is all thats left as a possible even though it checked ok. Basically they think its a fuel thing if at all or its been sitting for a while etc.
Driven twice since and long 300k ride tomorrow, will post and let you guys know.
They also suggested next few tanks to fill with 91 octane and some injector cleaner which Iv done, so we'll see.
Thanks to all for info and advice, it was useful for sure to this FJR newbie.

Hi all, 300k ride yesterday and 100k day before, yesterday caught in damn traf jam for 90min, crawling 1st and 2nd, not what
I wanted, light of recent history. After jam open hwy and 150kph for 30min. Bike ran great.
Impressions [newbie after all]
Dont need lotta gear change once in 5th, great mid range delivery.
Bit lurchy mid bend 90-100kph first day, 3psi front and rear, big difference day two.
windy and noisey on all screen heights as per initial test drive, no surprise, but Iv ordered Laminar Lip so will let you all know
what I think.
Seemed revvy at 150 [compared to my V2K] rev counter said not so by rides end loved the sound.
Need longer shift peg for my size 14s, anybody done this?
A great bike though, little things I will alter as I go, peg etc. Ran lo seat day 1 - ran hi day 2 on hwy, liked it for
extra stretch, might even stick hwy pegs on the canyons for long hauling.
I can see why you guys like this bike, Im in.
Thanks for opinions, I appreciate it.

Glad to hear you got her sorted. I to just picked up an FJR last week with 19K on the clock but have not had any issues. My first order of business is to bleed the brakes since I doubt they have been done and then go from there. Ride safe....

Now that you are in here is a few ways to spend you money to make the FJR better:

Farkles on my 09:

Throttle Rocker
Cee Bailey's Light Grey Reverse Contour Flip Up Windscreen 4 higher and 4 wider than stock. Windshield removal instructions.

Bags-Connection City Quick-Lock Tankbag

Givi SR357 Topcase Rack with Givi G46 Topcase

Heli Bars for a more relaxed riding position.

Tankslapper Total Protection Kit

Invisible Mask Paint Protection bulk film to cover the places not covered by Tankslapper Kit.

Russell Day-Long Seat the best mod on my motorcycle. Before this mod the FJR was something of a novelty as I could only ride 150 miles/day. Now 600+ miles is no problem.

FZ1 mirrors part numbers 5LV-26280-00-00 and 5LV-26290-00-00. The stock mirrors are not wide enough and and I quickly tired of the "chicken wing thing".

PIAA Slim Line Sports Horn Kit a 400hz and 500hz horn. They are loud - much better than the stock horns which sound like the Roadrunner with laryngitis.

Cox Radiator guard - the stock guard one allows small stone to pass such as those found on recently chip sealed roads.

Hyper-Lite Red Running Lamp

Kisan Electronics trailBlazer flashing brake lamps.

Garauld's Refreshment System allows you to drink water without a Camelback.

GP Suspension in front with a Penske shock in the rear. Awesome. Those who live in the Pac Northwest can get this done at KFG Racing in Auburn Wa. FJR are very undersprung. A suspension upgrade is a must have.

Clearwater Voltage Sentry to monitor battery and alternator performance.

Your a bad man Fontanaman-am thinking about rad cover as I picked out a few pebbles after yesterdays ride, and the heli bars, might indeed relax the ridin position. Probably go with front fender extender for sure. You got me thinking about horn, was looking at stebel, have one on my cruiser, loud as all hell.
Will check Piaa slim line [never heard of it] as stebel is bulky and heavy.
Apreciate it.
Motard, great minds-bled mine last night.

Welcome to the forum and to FJR ownership. Ever time I think of replacing the FJR I take it for a ride again and I fall in love with it all over again. So instead of replacing the FJR I just add more bikes to the garage.

The PIAA Slim Line Sports Horn Kit just bolts on to the existing brackets. No hassle to install and plenty loud.

I glued the Fenda Extenda to the fender. It is not a replacement for the Cox radiator guard which I am sure will save my ass someday but I will never know it.

Here is my web site with links to most of my farlkes.

I spent bundle on my farkles. The best farkles in order of importance are the Russell seat, the Heli bar triple tree, the windscreen and the suspension upgrade.

The FJR is a great bike - it just needs a little help. :D

+1, Gunny; very well spoken, my thoughts exactly!
