Airhawk question

On our recent trip to Big bend we pulled some longer days getting there and back. Before we left I was sitting at the picnic table on my self inflating thermaRest camp seat. And said to Jeanice I think I'll try sitting on this thing on the way home. It didn't fit the seat well, but I rode 580 miles that day with zero ass pain. I have a hard ass Corbin seat and usually start to fidget after about 100! Then ride another 300 anyway. Question is. What size air hawk to get for the FJR and who uses and likes them?

I use an Airhawk Medium Cruiser, 14"x14". I've never tried the less expensive Airhawk2, so have no idea how it compares. On a long day ride, which for me is 500-700 miles, I use it about half the ride, usually the last half. If I'm riding back roads, I follow the suggestions for inflation, but if I'm just riding Interstate, I inflate more than the suggested amount. I'm satisfied with it, and see no need to upgrade the seat, yet!

I wasted money (in my opinion) along way with an air hawk, beads, and a gel seat. each was better than stock, but in the end the money on a Day long worked for my ass.

I have ridden some 650 mile days on my FJR with only one of those ass pads you get at Wal-Mart in the ATV section. Its not lap of luxury type comfort, but it makes quite a difference.
Never used an air hawk. If I were going to drop that kind of coin, it would be on a better seat.

The Corbins can be hard, but the shape is good. Why not remove the cover, add some 1/2" foam and recover...... I almost did this but opted for a Russell.

While I'll someday pick up a Russell (after I get a new suspension), for now, the medium Airhawk cruiser pad (original version) I've had for a couple of years more than does the job for me. I use it over my Corbin and it's given me nothing but comfort in the saddle. I've done a number of 13+ hour rides and have never ended up with a sore arse; proper inflation is the key. Sure, it's a bandaid, but if you're on a budget and need something now, it's a good option.

I bought an airhawk med cruiser for Janet before our cross country trip last year to NAFO. That made all the difference for her. Proper inflation is the key. Remember that the gear you wear and any undergarments contribute to your comfort in the seat. I have a Corbin and have no trouble doing consecutive 500 mile days with no pad. We did 7500 miles in 14 days of riding last year. The rest of me was pretty worn out, but my ass was fine.

That is because your ass has had years of "taking a pounding" to toughen it up.
At least that is the way Bust tells it

The air hawk s a good product. It served me well until I took advantage of the Russel group buy this winter. But if your on a budget the air hawk does a pretty good job. Go with the med cruiser and just a little air.

That picture was taken in Hendersonville, NC last year. How the hell did he molest YOU before this one? You weren't even there!
Oh and rule 10? Wrong forum!!

As you learned with the Corbin, the Airhawk is another partial solution. In both cases, neither are exactly inexpensive. Save you money and put it toward a custom seat built specifically for you like a Russell Day-Long. You can then sell the Corbin and get a little more of you costs back. In the end, partial solutions still won't make you as happy as the real thing.

I don't consider my Corbin a "partial solution". I am very pleased with it. If I can ride 7500 miles in 14 days and not have any ass issues I think I have the right seat for me.

I did a 9600 Mile trip in 14 days on mine too. I just found out by sitting on air it relieves a ton of pain I personally usually associate with back to back 600 mile days. day after day after day. I was shocked adding an Air cushion helped so much. that said I take that thermarest Pad every time I take a trip. I can sit on it for free and not have to pack it.

Any saddle that needs something extra is, by definition, a partial solution. You should be able to do the miles you want without any pain. If you have to cut your dailies or your totals down (or stop more than you planned) then whatever you have isn't up to the task you've laid before it.

It could be the saddle but it could be the ass.....I find that it takes me a while to break my ass into the saddle some days.

Nothing but bones doesn't help. Maybe I need a custom orthotic for my diminished gluteal syndrome???

Okay, so any feedback on the Airhawk for the passengers bum?
I've got a Russell. The pillion seat is just a recovered stocker though, I Love it, but the gf is talking about coming down to EOM 13 with me. I know my last gf came out to CFR with me and her ass was toast on the trip out there (How numb is it?). Ended up buying an ass-ring at a drug store for the trip home. She said it worked fantastic. But it looks really REALLY stupid on the back of the bike with a sheepskin doing it's best to cover it.
So I'm wondering if the AirHawk would be a more permanent solution. I don't want her to comfortable back there.. I like riding alone
but I don't want her complaining either.
