Has anyone mounted a top box to the lid of the radio box?

Hi all,

I have a 2013 ex-police model (pic) which I want to keep as a single seater but ad a little more carry capacity for an upcoming ride around Australia.

So as the title says, has anyone mounted a top box to the lid of the aluminium radio box lid AND most importantly did it work or fail?

Thanks for any thoughts, advice or experience.

Cheers,

Yours is different than my BMW police bike. I’m willing to bet, however, that only four rivets, two per hinge, secure that box lid (not counting the latch, of course). I’d keep the weight low. I’d put a nonskid surface on the lid and tie a bag down to the rear crash guards.

I spent quite a while with city cases and a radio box. I don’t miss the lack of storage. Once my laptop shifted and blocked the latch in the radio box. Took a while to get it open.

Hi Bill,

I'd be lucky to fit a smaller ipad in the radio box on an FJR, they're tiny.

Also, they're forward opening (if that makes a difference).

I've used bags before but wanted something a little more streamlined & permanent.

But I'll keep it in mind if I can't find a solution.

Thanks,

T

You may not get a lot of response from us, because FJR police bikes are very rare in North America. (Which is too bad, because I want one.)
