Battery?

Here we go... Why do I get the feeling you get what you pay for?

I'm thinking about the Yuasa YT14B-BS it's about $110 on Amazon + shipping, $122 at Motorcycle Superstore free shipping. The cheaper I look look the more "off" brands I come across, but do you really want a $38 battery? Trust me, I'd love to have a $38 battery, I just don't want to spend quality time with it on the side of the road somewhere.

So let's get this thread started... What are you replacing yours with? Why, how much, and where?

I went cheapo on my Harley. The OE lasted 5 years before it gave up, the cheapo last 18 months before it south. I'll be putting a new Yuasa in the FJR.

Used a Westco on my previous '06.

The '09 is still on the original battery...haven't started to think about the replacement yet. Might try http://www.motobattbatteries.com/motobatt-mbt14b4.html this time.

Think I spent $45.00 for a Chrome battery from a place in Indiana Via fleabay Face.. I got two years outa it and now Blassoff from the other place owes it. I honestly don't think I went wrong goin' the cheap route.
We've all read reports of higher priced batterys only lasting a season or two.

Here is a tech article on battery types battery types. In here you will find this sentence: Price is dependent the product design, processing, and manufacturing costs. This includes the amount of lead, purity of that lead, methods of pasting and curing the plates, degree and type of inter-plate insulation, quality of the case, and the sealing method used. Generally, high quality means higher cost.

So pick your type and find a good deal. I am happy with my 09 OEM. Still going strong.

When I bought my 04 the battery was pooched. The local stealers want $220-$250 for a replacement. I bought an $80 Champion battery that lasted 3 years. I had to replace it last year and the dealer put in a Yuasa. If you do the math..

If you decide to go with the motobat keep in mind they build em a bit tall. I actually had to bend the top mounting bar a little bit to get it to bolt in. Otherwise a good battery.

Then again, this kind of thinking could buy you a Shorai at $186. Get what you pay for? Not below 35 degrees F.

LOL... I knew the Shorai thing would show up. I was going to qualify it as a non-gel question. The Shorai debate is a whole other thread. A couple pounds isn't going to make a difference to me. I'd do better to drop a few of myself.

I got an East Penn Deka for my Harley. It survives the shake so I'm sold on it. I will get another when the FJR needs replacement. The price is right too. Shop around.

The OEM Yausa battery in my '07 is still strong. I'm gonna replace it with the same battery. Buuuuuuut...DieHard makes MC batteries too. I have DieHards in both my truck and my wife's Expedition. The last truck battery lasted 8 years. My wife's, 5. Maybe they're all a toss up.

Yeah but wasn't it a Yusasa battery that failed in a 787 aeroplane, grounding it since January? Yusasa supplies batttery to Mitsubishi Motors who said a lithium-ion battery for its i-MiEV electric car caught fire at an assembly plant on March 18.

I would think they have standard motorcycle battery technology down by now. Those were the "cutting edge" batteries.

Man, digging up a five year old thread?

Amazing that battery prices have dropped so much in five years, because you've linked to the exact same Yuasa.

Not to hurt you, but....$62.40
