voltage readout

Hi,

If you're in the LA area and are looking for a shop, consider Ryan Reza's AdvMotoTech (https://www.advmototech.com/).

He's got everything sorted on my bike (2006AE)--found/fixed the short and replaced the clutch actuator. Running well, but I've got two questions:

1) What have people done about mounting a voltmeter? I'd like to be able to monitor the voltage lever, but the voltmeters I've found either want to be on all the time (a steady drain) or want to stay on just a few seconds. I can put in an inline switch, but I'd for sure forget to turn it off; or I could put in a relay. Any other ideas I'm not thinking of?

2) There's a noticeable clunk off idle. I'm assuming it's drive-line lash. I can't remember it being there, but that doesn't mean it wasn't. I might just be noticing it now. Regardless, is anyone aware of anything that can be done about that?

I use an escort radar detector and it has a setting to display voltage. The circuit for my radar detector is run though my accessory fuse block, and it is set to ignition hot (through the relay). I realize that what it is displaying is slightly lower than battery voltage (across the voltage drop for the r/d circuit), but it gives me a good conservative number.

I wouldn’t worry about the drive line slack. There is a thread on it in the other sandbox, but this seems like overkill to me.

You need some shit to do?? I've got a back yard and some stucco that needs attention. I have a heated garage, and I'll let you watch my T.V.

I put this one on mine and have been happy with it. I hooked it up to a fuse block that is switched with a master relay tied to the key switch. This unit draws so little current that I personally wouldn't hesitate to wire it directly to the oem switch circuit if I didn't already have a fuse block.

Search on ebay for several cheap ones, the trick is getting LED's that can be seen in the sun.

Handy thing, Battery Tender makes a plug-in version as well.

I use this one, bright LED's, I mounted it under the 'hood' of my instrument panel on the Gen3. It has a switch on the back to shut it off.

Incidentally, the stock stator on the Gen III bike is really good. The other day, I'm chugging at 45 mph in high gear (maybe less than 3K rpm), with high beams, aux. LED lights, grip heaters on WFO, and my heated jacket liner on medium. Original battery in the bike. Radar Detector is showing 14.4 and steady (THUMBS UP!!)

Forgive me for gushing, but it is the selflessness and thoughtfulness of the members of the FJR community that makes it stand out among its peers. :manlove: Thank you, HRZ, for your generosity and willingness to help in what you perceive as my time of need. I assure you that there is no shortage of things to do around here should I proclaim I am at loose(ish) ends, and it is primarily to avoid honey-dos that I seek alternative projects that often involve fixing things on the FJR that aren't broken.
