Newbie from Virginia

Post by Viper_Dad »

Hello all! I've been the proud owner of a 2008 for about a year and a half now. I discovered the FJR after my '04 Honda CBR600RR became too hard on my back. I sacrificed none of the performance but gained SO much more comfort! I mainly ride out-and-back from my home outside Richmond, Virginia. I'm the third local owner of my bike, she currently has 35K miles and I've named her "Raven". Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Wecome to the FJR community. That 08 is a low mileage model. Get out and ride it! Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum.

Welcome! I thought Virginia was for lovers, not vipers? 35K is just broken in. You have done well. It will serve you well.
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!

Welcome to the Animal Farm. Jump on the Raven and head West the last week in June. The Premier FJR Rendezvous is The Black Hills Roundup II here in Spearfish SD. Ride the Black Hills, enjoy the Camaraderie of 50 other FJR deviates. Looking forward to crossing paths down the road.

Thanks for the welcome! I've met up with a few folks from Virginia, even ride with one of them fairly regularly. I got into motorcycles later in life, around age 40, but have always been a Dodge Viper enthusiast. Ever since I first laid eyes on that Viper GTS on the show floor in Washington, DC, gleaming in Viper Blue with white stripes, it's been a love affair. Sports cars didn't really fit my newly divorced lifestyle so I picked up a 2006 Dodge Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab... it would haul groceries, haul straw, haul a trailer, and haul ass! It made a nice companion to my CBR but then life threw a curve ball at me so after 6+ years I sold the truck, got remarried, and put the money toward a house large enough to fit our newly blended family. As my priorities change my dream does not... maybe one of my kids will buy me that '96 GTS someday! Until then, I satisfy my need for speed with my beloved FJR. And yes, I do miss that truck every day.

So here's "Raven" on our recent ride around the Northern Neck of Virginia. I love going naked some days... well, the bike at least.

I'm heading up from SC...taking the curvy way up, stopping in Wytheville overnight. Heading from Wytheville to the RollerCoaster SE Ohio hills on Thursday. Riding Friday and Saturday all over SE Ohio...then heading back home the scenic way via US 119 south of Charleston.

Nice pictures and nice bike. Most of us old farts gave up on humping a turtle sport bike years ago while we could still walk :)
