Sick '07AE

Did anyone see the '07AE that was advertised for sale in Ohio? Had issues - wouldn't run 'right'...
Chatted with the buyer tonight - Joe - in Virginia.
I suggested checking the TPS sensor, he says that checks out. Seller said valve check was done and in spec. I'm wondering if it's the cam chain off by a tooth. The bike will run, but rough. Other thoughts?
2007 FJR1300 AE
78,000 miles
This is the automatic clutch version
Runs Rough
Appears to never have been crashed but has scrapes from being dropped or tipped over.
I bought the bike for a project and lost interest in it.
Additional accessories available for an addition (reasonable) cost.

You are probably on the right track, there are not many documented cases of FJRs running badly. It is highly possible it had the old version of the cam chain tensioner and there is no telling where that will lead.
Is this the bike that was hauled home in the mini-van? It would be awesome to be able to help someone with that much determination and initiative.

No. Not minivan bike. Minivan bike has a bad 2nd gear fork and jumps out of gear under acceleration, along with some other small issues.
I doubt the CCT is bad on that AE, but a valve check could have led to that, as we all know. As long as I think it sat, it could just be stuck rings.
My guess it's an easy fix for someone with FJR knowledge.

If it had a valve check, and any were re-shimmed, it may have a skipped tooth. I'd check that first, big job I know, but it does need to be right. Another thing to do i s refresh the spark plug wires.... remove/unscrew the spark plug adapters from the sires, trim off 1/4", spread the strands of wire, reinstall. OF course, a little Seafoam in the fuel...... see what symptoms are left after that......

Now I am confused. Who can I trust? Who can I believe? In this confusing world I have been taught that if I read it on The Internet it has to be true. Yet I see two different stories, both on the internet, saying completely opposite things! I am Lost. I don't know where to turn.
I would ask if anyone thinks I need a shot of whiskey to help me through this trying situation but now I am not sure if I can believe what y'all might say.
I think I will go spend some quality time relaxing with my tractor and my chain saw.

You might believe the guy who told you it was a two local guys who stuffed in into a minivan, and that it's the same guys on Facebook groups asking for help solving the problem.
If the guy's name is Joe XYZ that posted the minivan photo and said it was his bike and the guy asking for help is Joe XYZ, then it's probably not as large a mystery as you might think.
It's the same bike.

Festus may be right. I was putting 2 and 2 together with a thread from the other Forum, so it's possible I FUBAR'd it. Wouldn't be the first time. Lol. Since Festus has first hand knowledge, I'd say that's much more reliable.

So you're saying even when presented with the facts, Redfish still made the wrong choice?

I'd start with a compression check on this one. That will give an idea if its mechanical or not. Good compression rules out cam timing, valve clearance, rings, etc.
Also can help isolate a bad cylinder.
Quick and relatively easy to do ad a first step.

Bob, Andy, the guy who runs the FB page for the Virginia riders is who went to get it with him. The guy (Joe) is in that VA group on FB if you want to reach out to him.

Correct - Joe on FB near Richmond.
I suggested he get a service manual, go through the sensors then cam chain / timing.
He might be along here at some point.
