Another Custom Seat Option

So after many many months of trying to make up my mind, I finally got a custom seat. I sat on Laams, Russells, and Sargent seats. The Sargent didn't do too much for me, the Russell and the Laam were both what I was looking for. I heard horror stories about the Laam, so i was leaning towards the Russell. Then, while on a trip to Deals Gap with another forum (OhioRiders), I noticed a seat on a Concours 14. Began talking to the owner about it and he said the seat was made by Terry's Custom Seats in Tennessee. After much research, I never saw an FJR seat done by Terry, so I figured I would email him. After a few emails and pictures, I ordered my seat. I just got them in today, and wow I can't wait to try it out. My build date was supposed to be the 28th, I sent my seats on the 14th and received the finished product today the 25th. I had the front build to my specs and material preferences and had the rear recovered to match. $250 for the front, $125 for the rear, and $25 for them to ship it back. Here are some photos and a link to Terry's website.

I first heard of Terry Adcox from the V-Strom site, and had him make a custom seat for me. The price is right! I was not aware he did custom seats for sport tourers..... interested to hear your comments about comfort or if you can do a comparo to a Russell. It looks very good.

Very nice.....as I understand it, he has taken over for Dirt Road Eddie on the custom FZ1 seats as well.....I have heard good things and probably should plan to pay him a visit sometime soon.

Great looking seat! Once you get a few miles on it, let us know your thoughts.

I'd love to give a ride report. The day before I received the seat, it was 80 degrees and sunny. Once I received my seat, it has been 40s and rainy. Hopefully I can get the bike out later this week.

As much as this could cause a tidal wave in the custom seat options discussion, I'm also looking forward to your report on what looks to be a great seat. I've got no dog in the fight. I installed my Laam seats right before the salt hit the roads, and haven't even been able to clock 100 miles yet.

Great looking seat, great price, great turn around time. The last factor is rider satisfaction. I hope it checks all the boxes for you.

Yes, I should have many miles on it by SEOR. I've got a couple routes picked out that need scouted, so I plan to ride them soon.

Finally got to ride with the new seat. 20 mile commute this morning to work. I was worried that I couldn't move around on the bike, but after riding it, I can move around fine. I will hit some twisties on the way home and see how it feels.

Looks very, very, nice at a great price point. Could be the answer to the Laam backlog.

Gotta get me a look-see/sit-down on that at the Ramble.... interested in how Mr. Adcox built that.

Took the long way home after work and I am very pleased with the seat. I feel more "IN" the bike instead of "ON" the bike. I can still move around on the seat if need be. The next test is the most crucial, all day high mileage riding. I think it will be fine though. The stock seat for me was getting almost unbearable at around 400 miles. I have a SaddleSore 1000 attempt scheduled for this spring.

I finally got around to getting a proper ride with the new seat last weekend. I live in SEO, and I am a quarter mile from curvy roads, so I rode very little highway. First segment was some roads I am very familiar with. I am also sorting out a fresh suspension rebuild, and I was wearing new riding gear (lost 45lbs over the winter). With all these changes, I wanted to start slow and find my groove again. I told myself "let's just take it easy". Well that didn't last long. This new seat made it very easy. It is narrower up front which helped me move around more when hustling the bike around. I wasn't 20 miles in and I was back to making a spark show on my favorite sections of road. I road non stop twisties for a full tank of gas going from Coolville (Home) to McConnelsville, OH through Marietta, OH on the way. Second segment was more miles after lunch, another 100 miles of fun riding. I feel like the seat has helped me sit with better posture on the bike, causing a lot less pressure points. The material covering the seat is easier to move around on compared to stock, but not too slick. I am interested to see how it is when wet from rain. The seat gets an A+ for comfort on curvy roads. I don't see anything that could be issues for me on highway riding.. For someone who struggles with reach, like me, this seat is great. I still tip toe the bike, but it is very similar to stock.

OK, I figured I would stop back in here and give an update to my review on the seat. It has been 5 months and 12,000 miles since I got the seat. I cannot be happier with it. I no longer have any issues with pressure points or hot spots while riding all day. I cannot recommend this seat enough. I also updated the photos on the first post since photobucket broke the links.

Thanks for the update. I got a Laam last May, and although it's WAY better than stock, i'm still finding myself 50% uncomfortable after 45mins. Luckily, the level doesn't really increase like on the stocker, so i'm putting on more miles.

I'd love to give it a 'sit' if you'll be at EOM.
