New LEDs for Halle
Well, a friend sent me some LEDs to try out on my bike. I have been out of town at the Chicago IMS since Friday and did not get back until Sunday afternoon. Not sure how the wife felt about me coming home from the Cycle show and then going out to the store to get supplies, then sequestering myself in the garage for the next 5 hours. But oh well. Then I got a text about Pops wrecking on the bike.
They are the small 2inch versions from SuperBrightLEDs. They are 10 Watts and 700 Lumens each. He has been asking me about them nearly every day, so I thought I really needed to get them hooked up ASAP. So as soon as I got home, I started into it. That means a trip to the Hardware stores. I needed wire, connectors, shrink tubing, and some other supplies to get this done.
Electrifying them was pretty easy given my Fuzeblock. Routing the wire was pretty straight forward but was a little of a challenge since I needed to take some bodywork off. New to me Gen 3 plastic was fun.
The brackets worked well with a little modification to keep the bracket off the paint. I basically had to add a spacer.
I am an electrical idiot, so this could have been a tough job. But I was bound and determined to get them hooked up that night. No matter how long it took and I was taking her for a ride to see how they turned out.
10 yards away
75 yards away.
I might have some more aiming to do. I ran through town to see if any of the oncoming cars would flash their brights, but also it was a time to reflect on the day. Be thankful of the good news that I heard about Pops' get off.
I did not care how long it took or how cold it was (28) I was going for a ride to show Andrew how they looked.
You see, our friend Redfish said he needed to hear some good news after Pops crash. We are praying for you both!

Those lights look very effective, and similar to mine. Hope you enjoy them.

Looks like they're doing their intended job. Spot or flood? I couldn't tell from the photos.

Re: New LEDs for Halle
Those look pretty good to me. I am sure that anyone who cared enough to buy you a set of lights for your bike would NOT have wanted you to take time away from your family. If they care that much and know anything about FJRs, they probably have the patience to wait a few days for installation.
Even so, I am confused. You said, "A friend sent me". Having had the misfortune to ride with you, talk with you, eat with you, and drink with you, I find it astonishing that you actually have a "Friend"? Does this person have any idea about your real personality? Or is this "Friend" just dumber than a box of rocks?
WHEN you get time, if you could post a couple pics of how you mounted them to the ES fender with that dimple shape and the unlit light itself that would be appreciated. I used the nut from a 1/4 inch tubing fitting as a spacer. The Stainless Steel makes a decent, rustproof spacer. But I did have one vibrate loose recently.

Re: New LEDs for Halle
It didn't occur to me that the fender is different for the ES, presumably because of the upside down fork?
When one of my lights vibrated loose, I purchased some S/s wave washers, which did the trick. But my bike is an "A" model.

Re: New LEDs for Halle
I will get those pictures up tonight. Since it is Valentine's day, I will likely be relegated to the garage working on my relationship with Halle.
I have also been looking at other lights. I have think I have been bitten by the AUX light bug. Maybe get something else bigger for up top on Halle! Kind of like an augmentation procedure!

Re: New LEDs for Halle
As promised. Here are the mini running lights
It is amazing how "yellow" these make the headlights look because they are so white.
I have some SW MOTECH mirror wideners on the radar. After I get those, I am seriously going to be looking at some Mega Lumen lights for under the mirrors. The real inspiration is Pool Boy. I was in front of him riding in the dark of North Georgia. He powered up his Clearwaters, it was so bright some small trees near the road spontaneously combusted. They were that bright.
I might have to ask a tech question about how much power can he FJR reliably provide. I already have a heated seat, clothing plug, these little lights, and a GPS.

Re: New LEDs for Halle
Marty, those Clearwaters are nice, but seem amazingly overpriced. Admittedly, I may not know why I am missing in the quality of those, but I would have to sell one of my kids to afford a full set of those.
These little ones that put out 700 lumens each were $87 dollars total including shipping. Maybe I am not comparing apples to apples.

Re: New LEDs for Halle
I am still amazed that anybody cared enough for Cav to spend that much money on him. It seems like this "friend", we will call him Imaginary for now, must be a cheap bastard. If he was gonna buy the man some lights he should have sprung for the Clearwaters. Or maybe Imaginary Friend just doesn't really like Cav.

Re: New LEDs for Halle
They're expensive no doubt. I got a couple discounts, IBR and going there, so that helped. I saw the whole construction process and all the testing the do. They actually test them under water, completely submerged for hours.

Marty uses $100 bills for rolling papers, and tips his bathroom attendant in $20 bills, so Clearwater/Schmearwater.

I have a Clearwater light also. It's his little flashlight. It's my belt light that goes with me everywhere, while at work. Awesome little light!

Re: New LEDs for Halle
I sure do appreciate my "friend" for hooking me up with these lights. Especially for the "be seen" aspect. The Liquid Graphite certainly is not the most attention grabbing color optically for safety. The lights have to help. But then again my "friend" knows exactly what I am talking about.
Thanks for the heads up Marty. I do want to check them out. It sounds like a cool process.
Now you other clowns, quit going off track on my thread about Halle. She needs her attention. You can talk about her or her farkles. She is kinda a diva for now. After Saturday, we will see if she appreciates getting riden hard. Allen and I are planning a little recon ride for SIN_R.

Nice looking lights you have there Cav. For an alternative to Clearwaters...check out offerings from Justin at LEDRider. I have a set of LR4s mounted on my '15 with WynPro brackets...they're the berries!

Re: New LEDs for Halle
Coworker had the LR4s on the fender and on mirror mounts on his 06. He recently swapped out the top lights for the new LR5s. I have a pair of Clearwater Erica's on mine and have to admit the LR5s are damn impressive for a lot less money. Check those out as well.
