Brake Pads?

I will have to change the front brake pads sooner or later and was wondering what folks are doing. I see Yamaha pads and EBC HH pads, which are cheaper than Yamaha. Any suggestions or experience that will help me. Thanks in advance.

I have always run the EBC HH pads, front and rear. To me, they have a little sharper initial bite.

But then again, I really don't know how to ride a FJR properly...

That would be a matter of your eyesight and right wrist.

I like the EBC HH. Just do it.

I had EBC's on my Hondas, wasn't fond of them for the scraping and occasional squealing, so I have a preconceived notion about them. If they were more organic and less sintered, I'd try them on the FJR. I like the OEM pads, they stop well, but they cost money. But I'd say no harm in trying the EBC's.

I heard that the ebc are too abrasive and don't last as long as the Oem ones. They're less expensive, but don't last as long.
If it were me, I'd get the OEM.

That's what I've heard as well.

Seems like someone over at the other place thought that EBC pads wore the rotors out quicker?

In my experience, unfounded myth.

I've run EBC's for some miles; 55k miles on the current '09, 46k on the previous '09, 30k on the '04 - and the rotors looked fine; I've not measured them, so this is just my non scientific swag opinion on the topic...

But the feel of a more aggressive initial bite over OEM would track with the fact that they do wear faster. I just swapped out my fronts before EOM; they had about 35K miles on them and were through the wear grove.

The EBC HH pads...I'll more than likely use them on the new bike as well, when it needs new pads.

Thanks Wayne and Joe. Joe - how many miles do you put on your old bike with the HH pads? At about half the cost of Yammy front pads from Part Shark, the HH pads are tempting.

Some of you retired guys can sure come across as cheap bastages sometimes.... :D

That said, all joking aside, I assed up with only 2800 miles on my bike, and warped my rotors just before nafo. I was chasing my wheels around the front porch putting some new tires on. It seems that doing this kind of thing without the assistance of a decent tire changer can to that. damhik.....

I discovered through trial and error that my front rotors did indeed get warped, which caused the pads to glaze over. I bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago and replaced rotors along with pads. It hurt my one feeling when I looked at the total in the parts basket while checking out, and on top of that I found out the hard way that it takes 4, not 2, sets of pads. Shit ain't funny.

It's not Friday, but I think this is pretty funny. 2800 miles and a new set of rotors.
