Well, just got back from 1778 miles over 4 days, and it's looking like it's time to start planning for some tires. The rear is to the wear bars in the center and the front is very close, and both have a flat strip in the center.

I'm noticing it's getting harder to hold a steady line in corners, which I'm thinking is due to the squared off centers. You lean so far and then it wants to dive in sharper and you have to hold a lot more pressure on the bars.

So, I'm thinking about trying the Pirelli Angel GTs. I've read some really good reviews on them. Anybody have any reason not to try them?

By the way, I have 7000 miles on these original tires.

I have run the Pirelli Angel GT's in the past - they were good from what I remember, but it's been awhile.

The wear on the tires - squared off center - can cause the change in cornering effort and stability.

I've run a few sets and like them.

There is a heavy front and rear A version with an extra belt if you want. I have the A version ready to go on next.

Ok, I thought there was a heavier version that was better suited for our heavier bikes. I'll look for that one.

Well, I ordered a set of A spec Angel GTs. Should be here Wednesday.

What are opinions on air pressures? I have run the pressures stated by Yamaha, but for our long trip we just did I bumped them up 4 psi in the rear and 3 in the front. It just seems crazy to me that they recommend the same pressure if I was running empty and weighted 125 lbs, or if I'm running two up with full bags and full max payload. I'm just curious if anyone has experimented with pressures.

36 42 front rear and that wears out front and rear about the same time

My 03 is a lot lighter than yours and I ride one up without much baggage.

I run 40-41 front, 44 rear.... but not the same tires front and rear. Wears evenly, a tad longer and both wear out about the same time. YMMV.

I'm thinking of bumping the pressure up next time I ride with the hillbillies in Southern Appalachia. Those roads chew up tires quick!

I will say, mine wore pretty evenly, front to rear. They did get some scalloping, but from what I've read that seems to be pretty normal.

Well, the A-spec Angels are on! I put about 50 miles on them so far. I think I'm going to really love these tires!

First impression was realizing how hard I was having to work to hold a line through corners with the old ones! So smooth and effortless now!

Obviously I'm riding fairly easy with these so far, but they really feel connected to the road. It's hard to explain, but they just feel "sticky". I can't wait until they are fully scrubbed in so I can really ride them!
