Hello all!

I'm new to the world of FJR's. I just purchased a 2012 blue with 9600 miles on the clock. I'm not new to bikes, just the FJR. I ride a lot compared to some and to others not so much. I have 5 bikes but the bulk of my time has been spent on my 08 Goldwing. I love the wing, but as of late my girlfriend has been riding less and less and I'm hoping the FJR will give me a nice mix of riding styles. My wing has just over 295,000 miles and has taken me all over the country. I'm not really sure how the FJR will do for me, but I'm excited to find out! One problem I have now is the fact I got it in the middle of winter and can only look at it . Just from the ride home I know ill be needing some handle bar adjustment. I've been searching and reading the forum to see what's what, and will try and refrain from any adds to the bike until I ride it for a few months. KOOL-AID sometimes leaves a bad after taste! LOL. Anyway, I'm from Pennsylvania and ride just for the sake of riding and look forward to meeting and making a few friends. I'll try to not ask too many stupid questions on here, but I know me!

Welcome Clair. I'm sure you know that there is some adjustment to the bars as they are. Also, there are risers available. However, before you make any changes I recommend that you ride the FJR for a few thousand miles and see how you feel after you have become accustomed to the riding position.

Geezer,
thanks, I did know there is some adjustment and I totally agree that I won't be adding much if anything until I ride it at least this season. I've fell into buying farkles for a new bike before and then finding out I really didn't need / want them.

Welcome. Be sure to check out the other two fjr forums. Lots of great information there.

Again, welcome.

It's fairly common for riders to swap out the upper triple clamp to either MCL or Helibars in order to get the riding position a little more upright.

There are a couple of options to get a feel for the difference... there are tech day gatherings on the calendar as well as the regional gatherings such as the SE Ohio Ramble, Eastern Owners Meet (EOM). At any of these events you are likely to find a FJR with the top clamps installed and an owner willing to let you sit on the bike.

I better not be one of those 10 or 11 or I will have to seriously evaluate my life.

Welcome to the site Clair. The FJR isn't the La-z-boy on wheels the 'Wing is, but the 'Wing doesn't need to check with Dr. Sulu before embarking. So, you know, its a tradeoff.

Welcome, Clair.

I had a problem with the handlebars too, and was debating on which set of bar risers to get. I put on an aftermarket seat first, and that, along with an adjustment to the bars, solved my problem.

Good luck, and happy riding (once the northeast weather improves).

Welcome. I have the Heli bars and for me they are one of many necessary options to make the FJR work for me. I also have upgraded the suspension on my 09 (the Gen II's suspension suck), a Russell Day Long Saddle ( I am a spoiled brat), among a few other things. The FJR is a wonderful machine. I have 65k on my 09.

Welcome Clair... I'll tell you about Rob........ later.
There are some cheap riser blocks available ($50-70) that could give you an idea of what you want, ride those for a while, then decide if you want to go with the more expensive top clamps (MV, Heli, MCL).
