Coolant Leak?

I've had this very small intermittent coolant leak. It would only leak if the engine was cold and I started it for a few seconds and then turned it off.

I have the plastic off because I did the CCT and Valve clearances, well griff did really... btw... cutting a slot in the bolt heads of the CCT is a brilliant idea whoever thought of that... Also, we adjusted ALL the intakes at 72,444 on the clock. 1-1 and 1-2 were really tight, the rest were at or very close to minimum spec.

So, I finally found this:

I thought about just tightening it, but figured the hose was $6 so, I might ass well replace it. The part has been ordered and I'm keeping my fingers crossed there is no crack in the metal where the hose attaches. I'll know more when it gets here and I take it apart.

I think the real lesson here is to check all those connections when you have the plastic off. You know it's the frickin $6 part or a loose hose clamp that will leave you stranded in the Utah desert.

More pics when I get the part and drain the coolant.

This is likely normal....... Chances are the clamp just needs to be snugged up...... clamp was likely OK when new. The hose material will contract when cold and expand when hot. Enough cycles of that, and the clamp has compressed the rubber permanently. Not much but enough to require a little snugging. Don't crank it real tight so that it damages rubber, just snug it up. A more permanent fix if yer anal, is to get constant tension hose clamps.

Slotting the CCT bolt heads was deemed an engineering necessity at one of the first tech days in Owosso..... I'll point fingers at Billy Fitz and Bust.

So, I probably didn't HAVE to change the hose and clamps, but I did anyway.

That wasn't even witty, you Unimaginative Taint Sniffer.

Something witty would have been, "were you wearing a condom too, you poor excuse for a man"

OK, first, why slot the CCT bolts?
Next, when you've been around shop solvent, transmission fluid, coolant and god only knows whatever else is carcinogenic even OUTSIDE OF California, for dozens of years...well, gloves are OK. Plus, they keep the dirt out from under your fingernails.

Because it makes them easier to get out and put in. Otherwise, you're doing the 1/millionth-of-a-turn-and-readjusting-the-wrench thing for an hour and you need a half-wrench.

Berry is just mad I used up 10 of his home-made condoms at once.

It's always a good idea to wear a condom when working on the motorcycle. I work with the garage door open. I never know when some hottie will happen by and be enamored by my MC working manliness. She'll take off her clothes and ask me to do a lube job. One can never be too safe, and safety always comes first. Unless Bust is involved. I hear he comes in 2 seconds or less.

Why waste good mercury on a milkshake?
