I am slightly amused by the comments that the suspension is stiffer, yet they want a firmer setting for maximum.......
Some data we learned in another forum......
Gen II fork spring rate 0.85 kg/mm Gen III fork spring rate is 1.0 kg/mm (and mostly what folks upgraded their GenII's with)

Gen II rear shock spring rate 708 lbs/in, fixed preload 18.4 mm. (OEM replacement cost $610)
Gen IIIA is 976 lbs/in, fixed preload 11.7 mm. (replacement cost $425)
GenIII ES is 685 lbs/in, adjustable preload 14.5-22mm (replacement cost $2,325)

Perhaps they should have directly tested/compared the A....... but my suspicion all along is the ES idea is great, just needs a bit more spring, oddly enough the review implies that too.
The other question is, how long does an OEM shock last, and given the price of an ES shock, will someone figure out how to rebuild one?

I've said since I got my 13 that is sprung so well out of the box that I never did check the sag on it. Usually the first thing I do. I love the color on the 14. Had it been available when I bought mine I would've went for it. I wouldn't have gone for the ES though. While the price premium, new, is less than the cost of good aftermarket suspension, I don't know that its as, or more capable then one. Reviewers are impressed with it, but the they don't gush over it either. Throw in the fact that it likely wont be rebuildable so you'll be spending the dinero for an aftermarket suspension down the road anyway...

Stever, I'd think you'd be able to run the A suspenders on 'soft' almost all the time (as opposed to Gen 1 or II).... curious if you found that. I kinda mostly agree with you about the ES...... IF one decided for sure he didn't want one, he could pick up a nice used '13 and get a paint job if a colour change was desired. Could get any colour you wanted that way and save some bucks...... I don't actually mind the '13 colour at all, but you know I'd like RedWing Red........... ah someday........

Check the sag? Check the f@$king sag? Papa Chuy Viejo weighs 250 lbs., why in the Hell would I ever bother to check the sag! Goofy Canucks, eh!

That's about 18 stone for the Irish here. Its about one and a half fookin cabers for the Scotts. And its about 4.5 bushel of corn for the Nebraskans.

I could try, but the last guy I saw eat 250 pounds of bean burritos had more than his suspension sagging.... :shock:
