Good day all,
I’m from outback NSW Australia. Have a 04 FJR here in OZ with 195000 + on the clock and still going strong.
Have just brought a 2003 in Texas which my wife and I pick up next week.
We have a 6 week ride planned which will end in Missouri.
Basic plan is make our way through the south west and then up the coast as far as San Francisco. Then make our way back across to Missouri.
The plan is to see as much as possible without travelling on any interstates or major highways.
We would be interested in meeting anyone in these areas for a coffee & a yarn –

Enjoy your trip. I live in Seattle and the next 6 weeks are a good time to be someplace else unless you are a duck. PS if weather and time allows I would go north of San Francisco continue up Hwy 1 and take Hwy 36 east. Hwy 36 is one of those must ride roads in California. (just check the weather before you go).

Being Aussie, he probably does not know the provincial meaning of the historical term "Midwest", as it does not make sense with the size of the country as it exists now.

I think Dougie means the Missouri area as that would be the western fringes of the Midwest. West of the Midwest are the "Plains" states like Kansas and Oklahoma.

Have a great trip...hope you brought some heated gear and warm clothes as this winter has been long...and the area may experience lower than average temperatures due to the late snow melt.

I'd definitely consider Kansas and Nebraska as the Midwest. The great Plains are just part of the area. I could be wrong though.

An Aussie on a trip may call you up when he is in the middle of the "west" and wonder why you don't just head over to Nevada and buy him a drink.

I think the Aussies I've been on the road with know US geography better than I do.

here's one of the fellas on top of pike's peak.





he and another fella did much the same thing as OP. they bought bikes stateside and rode cross country from LA to North Carolina and back. I met up with them in STL. that was 2009. 2011 they came back along with one other fella and a bunch of us did a rocky mountain rally. the fella in the pic will be back again in september, but i don't think i'm going to make that one as its going to NYC etc. i'm not a big fan of the northeast. figure i'll probably fly out and spend a night catching up though.




I'm jealous of the OP, we just don't get the holiday time in the states to do these types of trips. spending a month or two touring a different country would be amazing.

Hi there "st3doug", we will be leaving the bike in Dexter & flying out of St Louis 4th of May. This is the only thing which we have booked.
And "wheatonFJR" our plan is shop for heated liners as so as we leave the airport.
As for having a great trip, you cannot go wrong being on a bike(FJR at that) and on any new roads.

Quite the adventure! I hope you have a safe and very memorable trip. Many microbrew beers available through most of that route, give some a try (Being Aussie I assume a beer at the end of a long ride might interest you). You might want to get a copy of the FJR assistance list for your travels just in case you have a breakdown or malfunction.
