The sport touring segment is shrinking...... the FJR is the only one really keeping up with the revisions in '13 and '14. Nothing from Honda, Connie isn't all that popular, and the offerings from Beemer, Triumph, KTM, etc. are seemingly too expensive, but also lower volume sales.. Adventure bikes are now popular, and yes maybe there are quite a few looking for a lightweight sport tourer.... it will be interesting to see what the Yammy triple-powered new machine will be............

That FZ09 platform might make a nice adventure bike as well, to compete with the Honda NC700.

Looks to potentially be a 3 cylinder Versys / Baby Tenere combo to these old eyes. Is Yamaha adopting a Honda multiple platform from the same maching strategy?

But I agree, if they are selling FJR13000s and I only got a 1300...then Lucy's got some 'splainin' to do.

I've ridden all kinds of bikes over the years, and my 2 favorites are my FJR and KLR.
I'm open to ANY bike knocking them off....

The word touring in a bike name brings to mind old guys on bloated v-twins with seats wider than a Peterbuilt cab over. Its unfortunate. We need to change the category moniker from "sport-touring" to "mulit purpose road and street" or something that doesn't group the FJR with both zip-splats and the slow brigade. All of us here know the sport-touring motorcycle is just about the best all around road bike you can find. It does all things very well, while others do one or two things great. As it sits the FJR is the top of the heap in this category in terms of bang for buck. So, with little interest in the category and little competition pressure, I applaud Yamaha for the advances it has made both with the category and the FJR. However, until America's obsession with chrome, loud pipes and race bikes, which are both status driven, fades, the sport touring category will remain to the relatively small share of riders who are driven by pragmatics and intelligence.
