420-430 miles today with ViperDad. Vast majority in the rain. In the low 40’s most of the day, dropped to 35, with some snowflakes and sleet. Didn’t stop us.

I don't understand why ViperDad would need FroggToggs with Klim gear. Klim gear is waterproof. Splain it please.

Tell ViperDad we need two days, so we can do Cherohala, HotSprings,NC, Roan Mtn and VA58, so I can really give you a clinic on how not to ride. It won't suck as much as you think.

He was a little chilly but not bad. Said his arms were cold but he couldn't find any open vents. Frogg Toggs killed the wind that was getting in.

We both rode well. It was an awesome day of riding.

I'll start planning when you have two days, Saturday and Sunday to ride from Travelers Rest to Cherohala to Paint Bank. I'll return to TR by myself that Sunday night. That'll be a ride!

I find that another layer under the Klim is all I need in cooler temps. I guess it all depends on what Klim model you have. I have the Latitude which can even be a little cool at 70°. I find adding another layer underneath is the answer. Today it was 52°. I wore the Klim Latitude gear with all vents closed and a sweatshirt as a layer over my street clothes. With heated grips at 7, I was totally comfortable.

Me, on the other hand, I was cooking I was about 50-60% on the warm and safe shirt and 100% on the glove liners and I was in good shape.

That's awesome Steve. I've always found with my Gerbings heated gear that I don't need much power for the heated jacket liner. However the gloves need at least twice the power to keep the hands warm on a really cold day. Heated gear is really the only way to go on brutally cold days.

That would depend on how form-fitting (tight) the jacket is on you. A loose fitting jacket would allow layers comfortably. A form-fitting jacket not so much, restricting movements and general Michelin Man feeling.
Rain suits are great for retaining heat, and still have movement. Only for cold weather riding though, as they become a portable sauna above 70°.

I ordered the same LED headlight bulbs I installed in my 2008 AE for the 2013. I'm prepared to be bitching quite a bit during that operation. I'll keep plenty of band-aids nearby. These are the bulbs I purchased and they work well in the 2008 AE.

Gen3 headlights, you have to remove dash panel black plastic, battery and glove box plastic, and on right side there's a relay behind the headlight you have to slip up to get room and a harness in the way...

Latitude is goretex and is waterproof to a point.

My experience is that in cool to cold (below 40F) and wet weather the evaporative affect is really noticeable, especially even the Durable Water Repellency of the garment is reduced (water no longer beads up on the surface). I can see how Frogtogs could really help in this situation though I never have tried it. I wash my Latitude several times a year with NIKWAX Techwash and treat it with Revivex or NIKWAX TX both spray on surface water-repellent coatings designed to restore the DWR of the garment.

I usually wear a LDComfort underwear/base layer and when below 50F add my Warmnsafe Jacket. When wet or cold outside I will often add a puffer jacket as extra insulation between the Latitude and the Warmnsafe. Three cold wet trips to Alaska have proven this concept for me. YMMV

We didn't have super in depth conversations about it, I just know a couple times he said his arms were cold and it felt like a vent was open on his upper arms. When we stopped one time, I checked, and everything was closed. Then it started to rain and the temperature dropped 10 degrees. The only complaint I really heard for a while was his arms were cold. Once he put the Frogg Toggs on, he said he was fine. This was the first test of that gear in cold weather for him, so he's still trying to find all the features of the jacket and pants. I think he was quite happy with them, since we rode in the rain for a bit before he put the Toggs on and had no leaks and was fine.

My warm and safe glove liners saved me. My hands weren't "warm" but they weren't cold either. We stopped for a bathroom break about 40 minutes from home and I took my gloves off. When I came back, I realized my gloves were soaked all the way through. I had no idea because the heated liners had kept the cold moisture off my hands all day. So much for water proof gloves. If I had ridden in those all day without the liners, I would have been home about 6 hours earlier
