Don't want to wait that long, but I have 3 kayak bags I can rokstrap on the back seat if I need to go on a trip.
I had to put all the paper work in the back of my jacket on the way home. Luckily my jacket zips to the pants so it was secure. Yea, bags would be nice.

Cleaned and lubed the universal joint, shifter etc. I was surprised how dirty it was under there...guess cleaning once every 100K isn't enough!

Yesterday.

It's been a long week here at LZ XRay. I spent Sunday morning plowing through the backlog on my "honey-do" list - most important of all was getting co-pilot's holiday lights up. Around 3pm, I succumbed to the temptation of sunny skies, an FJR with 3/4 tank of gas, and MIL day 7. I shot north to drop off a new winter coat off for my mom; I visited for a bit longer than planed and headed back south. I missed judged the amount of day light left in the day, and the drop in temperature associated with fading day light...

20 minutes of 2 lane travel through deer country, then another 20 minutes on the expressway with the afterburners turned up as high as the heated gear... It was 27 degrees when I hit the garage.

But sometimes, you just need some two wheel therapy...

Is it really winter in Michigan if you can see the grass?

Filled it up with a can of fresh fuel. Time for a long winter nap.

Same with the KLX and the Hustler Mower. Sad Sad day.

Got 185 miles of two wheeled therapy in, this afternoon. Does anyone know if the remote Heat Troller from Warm N Safe have a battery?

Yes, it takes 2 AAA batteries.

I put fresh batteries in the remote every Fall when I put it back on the bike. Nice thing with their stuff is that as soon as you plug in it goes to 25 or 30% power anyway so if those batteries die you're still getting some heat.

I may be the last rider on the planet still using "wired" technology, but today, I replaced a couple of my audio cables. Programming note: those cheapie cables are crap:

And they are not very heat resistant either:

I found these braided cables on Amazon. The strain relief at the connector is well done:

Took a piece of fuel line lying around and made some additional reinforcement. This way the cable won't be pulled on the zip tie every time I disconnect it (every time I fuel up).

It's only appropriate that I test the installation. Me thinks I'll do a "300-ish mile" test tomorrow.

Stay thirsty, my friends.....

I got the bike all put back together. First try on the starter after removing and cleaning only helped a little. Went from >200 amps to 173 amps. Still not good. Anyone have a good starter laying around. It wouldn't start either and is showing a 44 code. Haven't looked that up yet.

Ok. Suspension pre load. Definitely a result of the starter issue. Probably going to have to replace the battery.

Saturating rain all week. All the locks got sticky (topcase was worst of all). So they all got irrigated with aerosol silicon spray (red straw), and then each received one drop of ultralight gun oil (needle applicator).

Rode it to work for the first time in over 3 weeks. Weather hasn't been an issue it's been the damned road repairs and construction right in front of our shop. For almost 2 weeks they even had our driveway entrance torn out and we had to go through over 100 yards of loose stone just to get n and out of work. It's finally repaved, half-assed, but at least reasonably passable on a bike that's not a dual sport.

300 miles of good riding today with a friend. Temperature topped out at 80 degrees, but with low humidity, it was wonderful.

On the way home, I had fun playing with a young man driving a Hemi Charger. Unintentionally tested the rev limiter once (works great). GPS track says top speed today was 106 - me thinks that Garmin's data sampling rate is a bit slow. Actual top speed was considerably higher, as confirmed by Senior Charger (when he finally caught up with me, Bad Pants....).
