Got home, installed sensors, and within about 60 feet, destroyed the front sensor. It was barely making contact with the brake assembly. Genius. :)
This has been posted before. The front angled valve stem needs to be pointing 45° fore or aft.

griff wrote: Sun Jul 03, 2022 8:49 am Yeah, I looked at putting the TPMS sensor on the angled front stem, but saw it would contact the brakes. The only way to do it would be to rotate the valve stem 90 degrees to be in line with the wheel, which kinda defeats the purpose of the angled valve stem.
Now mine is angled I prefer it that way. Looks to be about 30° off center. Points up when the wheel is positioned with the valve toward the front. Just the right angle for my air hose chuck with my right hand when in front of the wheel. And left hand "from behind" seems to be the best way to reinstall the Garmin TPMS.

Oh, and this has only served 80,000 miles.

DOH! Temporarily out of stock.
Good thing out of stock... that price is EACH. Buy from Fobo or tpms.ca (who ship to the US).

No wonder I'm slower. I just graduated to PR4s last year.

A month ago I put a new battery from amazon in my Garmin 660 that has served me ever so well over the years. The siren call from the new XT is strong, especially the easier to see graphics, but there has been JUST enough complaining about it to keep me safely in my 660 comfort zone. I have no desire to wire a new toy either. Well, twice over the weekend the garmin acted up. Didn't come on, then was dim. I was cursing myself for missing the latest XT sale. Yesterday when I got home I put in the old garmin battery and it fired right up and worked fine. Called the company on amazon and they are sending me a new battery, but I may just leave the old one in. It doesn't hold a charge like it used to, but since it's wired it really doesn't need to.

Oh, and I washed my bike. Dang bugs.

I finally gave up on my 665 after many years. Battery wasn't holding a charge very long but not a major issue with it hardwired. (Made it difficult to review routes at a campsite or sitting in a restaurant.) Biggest beef was the dimness of the display - could hardly read it in bright daylight; even with a sun shield. Not worth replacing the screen and no guarantee it would be any better. Did my first major trip with the Zumo XT and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!

I am in the D-Eagle camp. I have two Garmin 590s. Yes the display on the XT is enticing but the XT has issues.

What issues other than not supporting TPMS?

It is a Garmin. :D

Ray bought one and had a problem playing music on a memory card. There's a post somewhere spelling it out and other glitches.

I thought he resolved that...
Garmin has had its problems in the past but I find the XT to be good - certainly in comparison to the Zumo 665 and 3 or 4 Garmin automotive GPS's I have owned. I am finding that the software has unnecessary features and some things are harder to edit than necessary IMHO. Perhaps they will continue to actively improve software...

Walked by my bike sitting on the battery tender for 2 months now as I can’t ride after having my back surgery. Man it’s tough not to be able to go out. Amazon photos doesn’t help as all my riding pics show up daily from years past😒😒. Not sure the doc is going to give me the green light anytime soon either as I believe he said 3 months at least.😳😳See him next week. The only thing is it’s blazing hot so I keep telling myself that but it never stopped me before. Recovery from surgery is like Groundhog Day but this too shall pass.

Put the stock (yikes) screen on it for a trial run. It was a little noisy on the way to the office. But I think it’ll be nice in the 90f temps on the way home.

I checked to see if it had a shaft drive. It did. Road Runner and Festus think all my bikes have chains. Na uh.

Issues resolved.... most of that was a Sena issue. Ditched Sena. On the Zumo forum, it appeared only a couple of us had a problem, and nobody responded much or cared.

I ditched Sena years ago. Buggier than a Garmin.

Local bike shop came through for me (and Partzilla failed miserably) so I was able to rebuild my water pump tonight. Gonna let the ThreeBond 1215 cure for 24 hours, fill the coolant system, do a TBS and leak check. With any luck, I’ll be riding it to Savannah this weekend.

Stumpled across some old pictures today - fitting for a 'throw-back-Thursday' post:

Bonnieville Salt Flats, October 2007 - me, my 2004 FJR headed to San Diego, CA.
