First ride of the season. O degrees but sunny. Roads were surprisingly clean. The old girl fired up like I just shut it off. So nice to be back on it.


Canadian FJR

Rode it to work today. 30 degrees on the way in and it's around 54 right now with a forecasted high of 58. Supposed to start snowing overnight again and 3-6 inches of white misery from the sky for tomorrow.

32F here, very light white dust. Warming every day this week, note this is the 6th week after Groundhog Day. Can we declare winter is over?

Yes, in SC. However, Santa says that you have been very bad...and will subject you to 6 MORE weeks of winter, and all your good Canadian friends. It's your fault. Sorry...the truth hurts.

Snugged up the steering head bearings on the ‘18 and installed a new battery in the ‘03.



Canadian FJR

My FJR is still under cover. Snow is just melting out here in Spokane Washington. May venture out next week but not in a hurry to do so. I will wait for a day where the low temp is not freezing.

Canada is dropping Covid testing as an entry requirement April 1, 2022. You have to enter Covid information in your ArriveCAN account before you travel.

So now I have thoughts of going to Jasper in May because it is only a two day ride from Spokane. There will be snow in the mountains and rivers full of water and the air will be smoke free. I really don't like forest fire smoke. Good time to travel.

Then again maybe not. I was in Tuscon Arizona in January to escape winter in Spokane. Tuscon was very nice, so much so, the wife and I arraigned for accommodations for Phoenix and Tuscon next year for 3 months. The hiking in Tuscon is terrific. Cactus, wonderful mountains, nice temps in January with clear blue skies with valley views. People were happy and we talked with them as we met along the trail to listen to their story. It was bliss. It was then I started thinking of Turk and his get off. He is still in recovery mode last I heard. I don't want to have a get off like Turk or any kind of get off for that matter. And I thought about this for a while and decided try golfing and bicycling more this year - yes less motorcycling. I don't ride my bicycle on public roads, just paved trails plus I have a mountain bike if I want to ride a gravel road or trail. I don't want to have a long recovery from a motorcycle accident. I don't want change my wife's life due to a selfish pursuit.

Last year a deer nearly hit me. That is right the deer hit me. Motorcyclist don't go out of their way to hit deer the deer hit us. Anyway this was a close call. I could have reached out and touched the critter. Deer have missed me while motorcycling so my times I am emotionally unaffected by it anymore. I hardly mutter a word then it happens. Immediately after the close calls I don't get shook up by it, don't pull over and don't give it much thought at the time.

To the north of Spokane are forests where deer live to the south are wheat fields with significantly less deer. The roads are about the same but the twisty road nod goes to the roads north. Not much traffic in either area but I think I will ride more to the south when I ride because I want spend next winter in Tucson with my wife.

Productive morning. Flushed the clutch and brake lines, cycled the ABS.

Clutch was plenty due. Brakes could’ve gone longer, but it sure didn’t hurt. Then I serviced the clutch and front brake levers and installed the Aeroflow XX Tall screen that just arrived.

About 170 miles of leisurely backwoods central NC roads. Didn't get in any hurry.

Road to work all last week. Bike season is here. Received most of the parts to do the swing arm and dog bone. Just need a day without rain when I'm off duty.

Last week I changed air filter on my AE, which was a hoot. Flushed the front and rear brakes and cycled the ABS, and Installed a new Givi V56 and SR357.
Working on it this winter I set some codes in the YCC-S ECM so I checked and cleared all stored fault codes. Also checked and cleared all fault codes in the ABS ECM, and the EFI ECM. The EFI had no codes. So now I can start off the season fresh.

All I have left to do is set the sag, and install the TPMS.

Went for a ride to finish scrubbing in the new R6GTs.

I swear it feels like a different bike. Just goes right onto a curve and holds a nice line.

The worn PR4 were starting to feel like you had to manhandle it into a corner. Then it wanted to go over more or stand up. Felt like constant adjustment in corners.

That's all gone now with the new tires. I have never noticed this much improvement from a new set of tires.

The PR4GTs weren't really that badly worn. Pretty even wear and just on the wear bars.

The only tire I have had that didn’t steer heavy the later part of its life was a Bridgestone T31GT front paired with at PR4GT rear. Then they disappeared. T30 Evo not nearly as good, much like a PR4GT. I like the PR4GT rear but not the front. Have a T32GT front waiting.

As you are in Florida, I have taken the liberty to correct the above statement for you.

Gathered up Viper Dad for a day trip into WV. I'm not sure about you guys, but when I get the chance to ride, it's like Christmas Eve as a kid for me. Sleeping is going to be an issue. 12:30 am, awake. 3:30 am, awake and didn't get back to sleep. The original plan was to meet at 6:30.

Screw it, I can't wait any longer...



Not a huge fan of riding in the dark at higher speeds, but I had to make an exception since the sun didn't show up for a while

We headed to Route 250W to go deep into WV, with the plan of coming back via 33 East. Popped into Seneca Rocks. Looks like they have destroyed the concrete bridge and raised the water level here. Seneca Rocks in the background.



Up to Spruce Knob. Can barely see the bikes in the middle of this one!







33 East was so good. 250W had a lot of gravel. 33 was smooth and clean. I think we came close to qualifying for MotoGP on that run

460 miles, roughly. Great day of riding in WV. Beautiful weather.

Not my FJR, but a buddy's 2010 has been stored here all winter waiting a buyer to take it away...... so prospective buyer showed up last Friday, taking it mid-April. While it didn't technically need it, I gave it a fresh oil change, brake and clutch fluid refresh, checked tars and brake pads, dusted it off and ready to go. I need the room!

Removed the yamaha touring screen and put the factory screen on the bike. Returned the stock seats to the bike and stored the touring seats. Next, removing addition accessories over the next few days.
