I'd vote about 4 hours, but take your time, coupla beer job......

Try this first.... some reported success..... undo the rear exhaust mounts, loosen the clamp on the left side pipe. Remove right side bolt holding the header to the centerstand. Remove the nut for the front pivot bolt, slide the bolt out against the exhaust..... pry out/up on the right exhaust, the bolt only needs a little bit more clearance to come down and out. If that doesn't work, then proceed to remove centerstand......

I rode it for first time since Oct. Nice little 300 mile ride. Would have been longer but the roads were wet everywhere, wind was blowing about 30 mph and gravel in all corners on the super twisty stuff. Decided to come home and live another day rather than risk it. Felt so good to be back in the saddle again.

I used gravity to my advantage. I undo the 2 rear exhaust mounts and the 2 mid exhaust mounts, so the entire exhaust is hanging from header. Then just push down a little on right side exhaust to get out both the center stand bolts and the relay arm bolt. It was really pretty easy. No cutting required. To get the relay bolt out I used a short pry bar to pry down the exhaust. I found this to be better and more controlled then just pushing on it.

I hosted an FJR event this weekend. Didn't get a chance to scrub in the new tires on the FJR. So I took my MT09 to my FJR event.

Took a nice ride on the FJR for the first ride of the year. It ran great , but the clock was an hour fast. :)

Does that mean you left the centerstand on??

I noticed this the other day, apparently I didn't "Fall back" the bike. But since "Spring ahead" is next week, my laziness shall pay off.

No. I took it off.

wheatonFJR wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 7:16 am Not sure where we're goin, but after a Stax breakfast we're headed out for a day ride to exercise the FJRs.
We ended up having a whale of a day. I had to get back mid-afternoon for a sq dance date with Louanne so we just kinda winged the route. I may may have overshot my arrival time, and I may have been trying to beat the projected gps arrival time at the dance hall on the way back. Stupid gps.

Anyways, we packed it in, even with the short day. Egg and cheese on Texas toast sandwiches at STAX at the meetup spot held us for much of the ride.

We headed up 178/215…then took a westbound Charley’s Creek Rd/281 detour so we could go east to Hot Springs. Ruhroh.

We hightailed to 212/208/?? Past Hot Springs to Erwin, TN. I knew by now I was going to be late to the dance. Sent a text to wifey that sorry, I was gonna be 45 minutes late to a 2 hr dance because of a detour. She asked if “detour” was code for accident. I said no! She later asked if detour was code for a ticket(s). Again, I said No!

I gulped down my apple and cheese and chocolate chip cookie and coffee drink and got out of there. Now I was leading…ruhroh. Oh well, I was not a very civil rider as the gps now had me 1hr late even before we left. So, 167 to 226a to 80 to Marion. I made it to The dance hall with 45mins left of a 2hr dance. Stupid gps.
I probably wasn’t a very good riding partner, but oh well… who knows, maybe that’s always the case.

Well, I had fun, roads were awesome, weather was great, and I had fun dancing with Louanne as well.

Sounds like you were a pretty terrible dance partner too.

Sounds like you only left the header bolts connected and just flexed the entire exhaust low enough for the bolts to clear. Am I reading this correctly?

Yes, that is what I did. I took out the center stand and relay arm. It worked fine and was really easy. I used a small pry bar/big screwdriver to pry between the exhaust and frame/engine, so it was easy to go only as far as needed and then let it go right back.

When I did my 07 I cut the relay arm bolt, because I was afraid to flex the exhaust that far. Now I'm not afraid, because flexing the exhaust worked fine.

My GPS changes by itself. So the bike never gets changed.

Probably my one and only complaint with the Garmin Zumo XT is that Time of day takes up a data field instead of being displayed on the screen during navigation like my old 220 did.

Rode it to the office. Ordered another rear tire for it (PR4GT, $209). I’m not sure how much tread will be left in the center of this one come TOH 1 April.

Rode it - Sunny and 60 degrees Sunday morning. Those conditions - in Michigan - in early March - could not be ignored. My spring shake down run takes me north for short stretch of slab, then side rodes along the St Clair River to the bottom of Lake Huron and the Blue Water Bridge.

Snapped a few pictures; this one is for my canukistanian friends - hope to see you guys this year (subtle reminder for Bungie - bring Line next time)!
