Self-discharge rate for an AGM battery in good condition is only a few percent per month. In addition, an FJR has a negligible parasitic draw. As long as the battery is in good condition, there is little need for a battery tender. As a battery ages, self-discharge rate increases. For the 11 year old Yuasa OEM battery, I will do a top off charge maybe twice over the December to March layoff. Never use a tender.

The experts say don't let your battery discharge more than 50%.... which is 12.5V. For your particular setup/parasitic draw, check after a week of sitting what your resting voltage is, then check every day to see how long it takes to get down to 12.5V. Or, skip to the end and plug it into your Battery Tender if it's going to sit over a week.
For winter storage, AGM's love to be fully charged and stored in your freezer for the lowest self-discharge rate.

Did the same today. Put the charger on and two minutes later got the green light. And ordered new tires from revziller last Sunday and received then on Wednesday. I will need them by EOM.

Rode for about three hours with my son in rural hilly upstate SC. 70s and sunny and riding with your son, who has my old 2004, is not bad, not bad at all. Just took a loping pace on scenic rural roads.

So to answer the question, I exercised it.

(yesterday)

Found one local taker (buddy) to join me for about 200 miles of back road FJR battery self-charging. I'll spare you the details, except to mention that we found ice cream and upon return, my bike battery was reading a healthy 12.7 volts resting.

That is all.

No... it's not.

I've 90% decided that I'm going to treat myself to a new FJR (ES) as a retirement present to myself. A "post-recall" bike with electronic suspension. After days like yesterday, that "10% undecided" comes to the top. Illogically, I love the bike I have now. She runs like a scalded ape and when we are together on the curvy roads, it's almost like she knows what I'm thinking.

Installed the Zumo XT that I got for Christmas. Really like the brightness, and not fumbling with the wire harness of old.

FJR with 82,000 miles, I really don't want another or to replace it.

However I could make use of a tractor or two. Start with a 30-40 HP open with FEL that I can get between trees to pull fallen lumber out. Mow ditches. Back hoe would be nice too.

Later something bigger to mow/hay 200+ acres.

Mounted www.bullrack.com for my side panniers on the wall in the garage. It's really good to have them off the floor when not mounted. Nice pieces of kit and made in the US! :)

Cheers
Alex

Mounted and balanced new tires over the weekend.

Also called EPM performance in New Jersey and ordered a Hyperpro shock and front springs. They should be in in about 4 weeks. Looking forward to installing them because at 50k the stock suspension is more than over due to be replaced.

Put some Mobile1 10/40 4 cylinder oil along with rear end oil in so ready to rock for the riding year. Road 6's are not far behind. Figured I would give them a try as the 5's have been ok for me. Like everything else tire prices have gone up and see that even the Road 5 & 6GT's are hard to find now.

New RS3s on the bike today. The rear was stiff as a board. We had trouble getting it on the rim. All balanced now and ready for a little trip to Florida.

Ya, you’d think he would meander up to Big Sky country or the Black Hills.

^^^^

We have a plan to fix that.

Today I will be plugging in the battery tender to the FJR. The reason is because I will be unplugging the KLX. Heading down to the KAT today for a couple days of riding. It’s gonna be cold, but that’s what heated gear is for.

I just have to figure out a way to get the KLX into the back of the truck with snow on the ramp!

I think both comments are fair. I retire 7/1/22. There will be much more time for that then and thereafter. Next year, I hope to go to British Columbia, and all point in between.

Moved it to work on a wood project. Also looked at it thinking a 2022 ES would be nice in its place.

I'm good with it. I've had locks on the '07 from way back and I've missed them on the '13.
I re-visited this today. Got my hands on a Helmet Guardian from these folks-> https://www.advdesigns.com/heguprheselo.html that my OE key fit. I re-did the tumblers using the instructions here -> https://www.fjrowners.com/threads/yamah ... st-1323510 and voila! Helmet locks with my OE key again.

If anyone wants the 2 Yamaha locks I have, PM me. Be aware that they're keyed the same but may not be the same as your OE key.

I rode 250 miles on a round trip meet up with some friends in the cold and wet. Stood in a hot shower for an hour when I got home. 🥶
