Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Got the 2nd gear recall done in October. Had to wait for brake light recall until part came in. Part came in, bike in the shop for that, and I asked about the reflash for the 2nd gear reflash that was recently released. They would check on it.
Brake recall done, but they’re having an issue with the reflash. Tried 3 times, and in contact with Yamaha. Hopefully, I’ll get an answer today.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Let it take me shopping. Total of about 5 miles.
Much better than the car because it's quite trafficky, and filtering for maybe a mile of slow-to-stationary traffic saves quite a bit of time even over such a short journey. Of course, I am ignoring the time needed to dress for the weather - overcast, dank, drizzly, windy, 5C (41F).
And I still enjoy the bike over the car, even in this weather.

Dropped it off for valve check and to have a torn muffler hanger replaced while it’s on the lift.
They’re cutting off the bolt that you can’t get off (by the exhaust) and putting in a new bolt, reversed.
The innards of that knuckle at the bottom have to be tragic, as much rain as it’s seen, and as long as it’s been without proper service.

Of course you do. You're an Englishman, stiff upper lip and all. I mean, if it isn't damp and cold, would you still be in England?
I have no problem riding through crap weather if I'm on a long continental trip, because I know I'm on a trip and I will ride through it eventually. But I am a lazy American and would not have the innards to voluntarily do what you so easily did. I tip my (imaginary) hat to you.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
You also have to realise that when I started riding at the tender age of 16 on a Tiger Cub, if I wanted to go anywhere I didn't have the choice of a car. So, no windscreen, no weatherproof riding gear, just a helmet (no visor, but I did acquire some goggles) and unlined leather gloves. If it rained I got soaked, and being England that meant being cold and soaked.wheatonFJR wrote: ↑Thu Dec 16, 2021 4:20 pmOf course you do. You're an Englishman, stiff upper lip and all. The only good news was the bike wouldn’t travel above about 55, so wind wasn’t quite the issue it would be today.
I still remember nearly falling over more than once when stopping because my legs were so cold I could barely get them off the pegs, and then I had the problem of peeling my frozen fingers off the grips.
Managed like that for several years. Happy days.
Not saying that made me hard, but any recent riding is pure luxury by comparison. Unfortunately I think age is taking its toll, I cheat by having a full-face helmet, Gore-tex suit gloves and boots, and a heated vest if it's cold and I’m going any distance.

Washed it. Record high temp this afternoon for the area. I rode to work this morning and as soon as I got home gave the FJR a nice bath. Not often we get 65 degree days in December.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Picked it up from a valve check/adj. 50,000 miles of riding it like I stole it since the last check. Only one valve was out of spec (exhaust), and it wasn’t bad. That was corrected. Not bad for 86,000 miles and change.
All the underpinnings got r&r’d, inspected and lubed. Nothing looked bad. I guess riding in the rain a lot isn’t so bad if you’re riding every day so it doesn’t sit wet. Some of those bolts had never seen lube since the factory. Some had my half assed attempt at partial removal and sketchy application of a grease gun (despite Pants’ best effort to guide me through doing it the right way), around 35k ago.
The blunt force trauma of whatever I hit last year was also repaired. Part of the centerstand bracket/exhaust hanger was torn partially away. That part was cut away (too mangled to remove normally) and replaced with a new one.

I fired up the Husqvarna snowblower to remove 3" if snow from the driveway today. Meanwhile the FJR remains covered waiting for March 2022. My goal for 2022 is ride cross country specifically to the South.

Next IBA winner? (Might need to upgrade the 1 gallon gas tank...)
