Let’s try this again.
I know the saying of “If it fits, it ships”. Not sure that should apply to 2 motorcycles that will weigh nearly 1K lbs with all the gear and camping equipment. My little Tacoma might not like the 1052 mile trek to Spearfish
Before, also am planning to host John and Brian as they make the trek back from Toters Tech day in Georgia. The slog across the plains is not welcoming. The least I can do is give them a decent place to stay over. Also will just be getting back from chaperoning the DC trip to Washington.
Now after John’s soirée, I am going to be begging for some kitchen passes from the boss. I want to ride the BDR.
What I am really jonesing for is riding some alpine areas on the 450. It could be Montana, red lodge area, Colorado Alpine loop, or even Idaho. Since I am already gonna be out there, I might as well give it a try. Those places are not the smartest solo type adventures unless one knows the areas really well. And I don’t, so my plans will be fluid for awhile.

The hardest decision here is which machine to bring. The paved roads are great and I have ridden them at least 5 times. The dirt Dakal is also calling my name.
Who said you can only bring one bike? Show up on June 13th to ride with Dakota Dual Sport Riders at the Custer Crossing Campground till Sunday the 16th. Maybe we can arrange another Side by Side to wack you and your Dual Sport bike again. Monday the 17th, we start out on the South Dakota Black Hills BDR-X finishing up on Wednesday or early Thursday. Thursday afternoon, we meet up in Spearfish with the FJR hooligans and tear up Spearfish Canyon Road, Iron Mountain road, Needles Highway, and the rest of the fun roads. In the evenings we'll drink and tell lies in the parking lot all evening. How's that for a 11 day riding plan?

FYI - thankfully there are work arounds for US 385.
Highway 385 project will close road critical to $2 billion Black Hills tourism industry
A $72 million project to rebuild 15 miles of U.S. 385 will cause major disruptions to tourism in the Black Hills the next two years.

This might whet some appetites for riding in the Black Hills.

The only question is...do I take 2 days from Travelers Rest or 3 days...cuz I'm not like Lumberg and do it in one day.

It's 615 from your place to here. Then almost exactly another 1K to Spearfish.
You are more than welcome to stop off here if that is your trajectory.

I may just do that, taking all day going backroads through Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana to do that. I will also probably just wander another two days along the 2 lane county roads to get to the shenanigans in SD...where the real adventure will start. lol

"That's a Bingo!"
You win Ray. As soon as I accepted Josh's offer to eat Steak at his place and campout in his living room in my sleeping bag, I knew it was going to be a three day trip.
Probably head west from Josh's to see if Zzzzip in Palmyra can still kick my ass, then stay at cousin's place in Lincoln, NE...I know he can still kick my ass. Then head north and west from there to the old farm place and Rosehill cemetery on the hill where my sister and grandparents are buried, before hightailing it up and northwest through Nebraska and hit Spearfish Canyon as the last stretch of road before flipping Marty and BigJohn off in person.

First of all, the living room is off limits for you! You will be in the basement with all the other ruffians that have been so unfortunate to traverse across the desolate wastelands of the midwest.
We will eat whatever you want.

Awesome. You are too kind. I will take the bunk in the basement. Not sure of my arrival time, so I may not make it in time for supper...so don't make any special arrangements for me.

Prior to visiting Josh, I had never slept in a basement before. I kept thinking that I would need a life jacket or something. Down here, a "room" 8 feet below the surface would be called a swimming pool. Be that as it may, all arrangements were quite comfy.
Now - If it was me, I"d make DAMM sure I got there before dinner. Cav's ribeye steaks are NOT to be missed.
That is all.

But based on the route I'm going to take, that might involve speeding.

I realize speeding is not in keeping with your strict principles, so the solution is getting up earlier!!

I have a light on the back porch. Grilling can be done in ambient light.
When you get here, I will fire up the grill. You can get settled, take a shower, and we will eat. There is no set dinner time around our house.
