Re: Official 2017 Calendar Contest
This is fun.
Regarding graphics, may I suggest that whatever design is chosen, we preserve the "FJRiders.com" in the same font, color, style, and presentation that is used on the website?

I, for one, really like what you did with the graphics...especially the fonts. I'll have to disagree with Pants (first time?) about the font on the forum, as I find it a bit plain.
Btw, thanks for putting this together!

Or maybe we change the website to look the same as the calendar.Hppants wrote:This is fun.

I also find the font on the forum to be very plain. Actually the entire title bar. The title bar may be my next project, assuming I have permission to do so.LKLD wrote:I, for one, really like what you did with the graphics...especially the fonts. I'm just excited that there is this level of interest. It was just going to be 12 pictures of my bike, but this kind of thing is fun for me. On top of that, it feels like something I can contribute to a community that has helped me so much in the past. But seriously guys, give me some ideas. I'm my harshest critic and will drive myself insane. So far, Pants is the only one to offer any kind of opinion. It was wrong ( ), but at least he mentioned something. I keep going back and forth between the 2 I've come up with.
When I'm done, I'll quote my son's preschool teacher. "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit!"

Re: Official 2017 Calendar Contest
I guess I was thinking that this calendar on display could (indirectly) serve as a way to promote (without advertising) our forum and if the font/styling was the same, it would follow basic branding principles. Changing the website certainly accomplishes the same goal, agreeing with Tim, if the owner(s) would be open to it. If not, it's certainly no biggie to me. I'm just thrilled to see this come together.
Here's some other input: I like this style for the "month" layout, with a small graphic of the previous and next month on the same page:
https://www.kainosprint.com.au/images/C ... ForWeb.gif
Seems like every time we check our calendar in the utility room, we are looking ahead (or behind) to the next month for planning purposes.
Also, regarding the color selection, is it possible (without making additional cost) to have each month's color reflective of the picture chosen for that month? I'm no color expert, but SWMBO tells me that matching my shirt to my pants is important. Thankfully, she has arranged my wardrode such that I can't screw it up.

Re: Official 2017 Calendar Contest
Do you like this better? Crummy job I did in Paint instead of working. I tried the match the font all the way across, but I can do better when I have the time and tools.bungie4 wrote:I'm in the same boat. Not a designer. I agree with your branding statement. I just don't agree with doing it with just plain text. Branding is more commonly associated with a logo instead of just Arial font plain text.Hppants wrote:I guess I was thinking that this calendar on display could (indirectly) serve as a way to promote (without advertising) our forum and if the font/styling was the same, it would follow basic branding principles. The calendar has those mini-months. They are just in the bottom corner instead of in the graphic itself. The Nighthawk calendar is the best representation of the calendar itself. We can add items to days in the calendar as well. Say if we knew dates for certain events, or holidays.Hppants wrote: Here's some other input: I like this style for the "month" layout, with a small graphic of the previous and next month on the same page:

We'll see how things shake out. The first year, I let people choose the month they wanted and priority went to the highest rated images. The last one, I started with the least favorite picture and worked my way up to the best picture. The thought there was every month, the calendar looks better. But I think it will look good no matter what. I'll keep this suggestion in mind.Hppants wrote: Also, regarding the color selection, is it possible (without making additional cost) to have each month's color reflective of the picture chosen for that month? Re: Official 2017 Calendar Contest
The Worst Picture that has been entered is still a Great Picture. You could take the picture with the least amount of votes and put it on a calendar and I would still want to buy it.
My only complaint is that I don't have this calendar hanging over my desk right now.

Re: Official 2017 Calendar Contest
For the font, to me it needs a tweak. The font is OK for FJR but the 'iders' part is hard on the eyes. Maybe darken the blue so less contrast with the black or make the black dark blue? OR ditch the shadowing altogether? Have a look at FJR OWNERS headline.... now not the same I know but it is easier to read and get it right away.
Another idea is make it like the embroidery on the FJRider hats.... or what about the stickers..... i.e., stick with the existing logo as branding. I'll have to get a couple of pics...
