What did you do to your FJR today?

I got the cheap bar risers installed yesterday. Seems to have given me that little bit I needed to get comfortable with the seat in the tall position.

This weekend:
Prepped the new upper Triple by pulling the old ignition studs, cleaned it up, and installed my ignition into it with regular cap head bolts. I bought the safety nuts but after drilling and pulling two sets (one from the new triple and getting my ignition off the old one) I decided to stick with something easy. After all, the thieves don't know I have it and it doesn't really deter them, and a 90K mile motorcycle won't bring them much cash anyways.

Okay, I tend to expect the worst, at least in some cases. I would not use the OEM security screws either, but I would replace them with Allen heads. If they were not black headed screws, I would paint the heads black. Once installed, then fill the Allen recesses with black RTV. Anybody who looks will see OEM security screws, because that would be expected there. If you ever need to remove the screws, it's an easy swipe with a scalpel to clean out the RTV for maintenance. Amazon has scalpel-handle plus blade deals, for pocket change. The #11 scalpel blade is like the X-acto #11 blade, which would do the same job. You can buy a grundle of scalpel blades for the same price as a few X-acto blades.

Good point. I went out and looked and you have to look really hard and know what you are looking for to realize they aren't security bolts. Also, you'd first have to question that this particular bike doesn't have security bolts and care about it to get in there looking. I'll go with your plan though next time I'm digging around in there and have it apart. Until then, I'll just continue my current process of not washing it and leaving it uglier than any other bikes around so that would be thieves will rather target other bikes than touch my nasty mess.

Also, judging by thick layer of crap that was on the bottom of my triple, I doubt those bolts will remain silver for long on their own.

Ok took a little shakedown ride about 60 or so miles to check to see if my sealmate treatment worked also was running with probably less than a quarter tank of gas and wow what a difference that makes. Well sealmate was unsuccessful so I gave it another shot bounced the front and seemed to stay dry so I have my fingers crossed. I'm hoping it works, I don't really feel like doing the forks right now. Means I would have to decide just do the seals or go whole hog bushings too? Attempt it myself or get ripped off from the Stealer. Of course either way would do the Spring upgrade but then I would need to do the rear shock. The Domino effect.

Since I decided to take the FJR on the Trifecta it's maintenance time. Oil change plus a new filter and bled the less than stellar rear brake circuit. Few bubbles from RH front, fluid from rear caliper clean. Leaving for NAFO next weekend...can't wait!

Rode 1100 miles over the weekend (3 days). This with a new Bridgestone T32GT front tire and a T32GT rear that already had 2000 miles on it. Normally a new set of tires behave really well. I could not believe how well these tires handled - very impressed. I felt like I had just jumped on a bicycle. Tar snakes were not too noticeable.

The new front T32 replaced a Pirelli Angel GTII that got pointy and handled like a truck, and that also felt unhinged on tar snakes.

Long term performance, I don't know yet, obviously.

Got out for a nice ride today. Enjoyed the relatively low temperature and humidity. Filled truck with gas yesterday expecting Afghanistan to be an excuse to raise prices 25¢ but they fell 5¢ this morning.

Today, I watched a friend perpetrate a helicoil to repair my stripped lower brake caliper bolt. Went well.

Together, we checked wheels for damage. None found. I have had a busyness, a fluttering bounciness, that reminds me of my last pickup truck when it was ready for new shocks. Doesn’t get better or worse at speed. No notable vibration. It’s like it’s hunting, rarely settles down.

Been this way for a couple of weeks. Happens regardless of suspension setting. Front and rear suspension feels like it’s working fine when I work it in the garage. Rear tire is fairly new. Front is plenty worn. No idea so far. I’m going to replace the front tomorrow and see if it helps. Baffled.

Mounted 2 new Pirelli Angel GT tires, lubed drive shaft splines and took a short test ride. Had to work some getting these tires on. Many pairs of Michelin PR2S had me spoiled for ease of installation.

NTXFJR and I rode to SFO and planned to stop by Barber on our way. In the parking lot, stowing our gear NTXFJR says "I hear you can spend hours in this place, I figure 45 minutes and I'll be on my way, stay as long as you like though." Before you go in, before you even buy your ticket, there's a nice 3x3 vertical display of bikes that NTXFJR spent 20 of his allotted 45 minutes drooling over. We did spend hours in there, what an amazing place for a motorcycle fan.

Replaced my front tire today. Didn’t fix the bouncehaus. I think I may have an out of round rear tire. Ok just going to ride it out, figuratively and literally, until It’s time to replace it.

Put the bike on the centerstand. Start the engine, and select first gear. With the rear wheel turning, brace a china-marking crayon against the ground and hold the writing end of the crayon steady near the rear tire. Move the marker closer to the tire slowly, until it begins to touch the rotating tire tread. If the crayon marks all along the tread, the tire has no high spot. If only one part of the tire gets marked, the mark will be on the high spot.

If you have a small jack, you can lay a screwdriver across the jack and hold the tip steady, near the rim. With the wheel rotating, you will see if the rim is running straight and true. HTH.

I did that yesterday. No sign of trouble. Pretty much nothing left to try, that I can think of, except to pull it and rebalance it to see if that helps. I don’t know that the rear tire is the cause, but I noticed the fluttering not too long after I mounted it.
